Towpath signs around Donnington Bridge

These signs appeared in the past few days near Donnington bridge.

>IFFLEY MEADOW TOWPATH
Registration No ON345473
The Hartley Trust is the riparian owner of this section of the River Thames, north and south of Donnington Bridge. Mooring, anchoring, or remaining stationary is subject to receiving a license.
The riparian owner offers a limited number of moorings by agreement where license fees apply.
The riparian owner wishes to share its stretch of the River Thames with all responsible users to help balance the environment.
For further information please contact office@hartleytrust.org
Thank you

I looked it up, the Hartley Trust is a pretty ancient organisation! I imagine these rights have been in place for centuries.

Still, I hope it’s not a sign of trouble brewing. There are lots of boats moored along this stretch in contravention of the well-known and understood limits. But no enforcement ever happens apart from occasional bits of paper.

But there are vulnerable people here who would probably otherwise be homeless. Pushing them further out wouldn’t be good.

Anyone got more info?

Over-constrained newbie question

I'm trying to sketch out the shape of a piano keyboard. I am trying to make the off-vertical line vertical. It's under-constrained by 1DOF which I believe corresponds to that line (it can move).

But when I add a vertical constraint to that line it becomes over-constrained (second screenshot).

I'm obviously misunderstanding something, but I'm not sure what. I don't think I have any redundant or conflicting constraints.

Also (third screenshot) when I do manually move the line it leaves behind a ghost version of it which disappears when I Recompute. Is this normal? Freecad 1.1.0 on Ubuntu 25.10

Thanks!

Why isn't CAM more automated?

I know this is a naive question, but it's genuine! I'm one weekend into learning FreeCAD, with no relevant background, so please forgive me. I just want to check my understanding.

After making a piece with pads and pockets I'm now looking at the CAM Workbench, with a view to using a CNC router. I'm surprised that CAM requires so much additional effort. It seems like I have to more or less go through the process of constructing the body again, choosing pockets, contours, profiles, etc.

I had expected that a CAM package would be able to infer the operations for tool paths, or perhaps provide an initial 'good enough' scaffold. Especially for simple pieces with no undercuts.

Am I missing something here?

I've just got a second-hand FoxAlien Masuter 3. I ran a simple gcode file and the X, Y, and Z axes all move as expected.

So I ran the UGS Setup Wizard. And when I jog the Y or Z axis, they instead move the X axis. Same with the jog buttons -- all buttons move the X axis.

I don't know if this is a bug or user error, but the fact that the jog is affected but gcode sending isn't, seems suspicious.

I'm having other similar issues too but this seems like a good place to start.

Any ideas?

An amazing May morning! Huge crowd and people were really in the mood for a dance!

Here’s a view of the crowd from the steps, from the perspective of the Whirly Band.

Was anyone in the crowd?
