Diagnosed today and scared for the surgery recovery

Hi! I (29F) was diagnosed with bilateral compartment syndrome in my anterior, lateral, and deep posterior compartments today. After running for two minutes, my compartments measured 105mmHg- my doctor was astounded.

I am clearly a candidate for surgery- I’m just nervous. I saw a sports medicine doctor after I returned to running after a year of rest due to shin splints. Almost immediately, my symptoms returned.

I’m scared that once I have the procedure, I won’t be able to run since I’m relatively new to it. (My “long runs” are 6 miles running at a 12 min pace)

Can anyone offer any reassurance that I will likely be able to run again? I enjoy it a lot, especially now that I’m doing it for myself and health and not just the time.

Hi,

I, 29F, just received my first abnormal pap smear results. It’s obvious that I tested positive for HPV, which is not surprising because my only sexual partner for the last four years has a… past.

I just was hoping to get a better understanding of what’s going on right now while I wait to have an ultrasound and then an appointment to review all of my results with the ordering clinician.

I went to Planned Parenthood on Monday because I wanted to have my IUD removed and replaced. There’s a series of events leading up to this decision:

  1. I have had intense cramping and bloating for the last three years

  2. My boyfriend complained he could feel it during intercourse

  3. I had it inserted in 2021 and my card originally said to have it removed in 2024. I know the length has been changed to about 7 years now but replacement would have given me peace of mind.

  4. I had two positive pregnancy tests but a negative blood test.

  5. I have always bled after sex for the last year but it got heavier in the last two months.

My regular OBGYN couldn’t fit me in so I went to PP. After speaking with the provider, she opted to do a pap and full exam.

During my exam, she said she could feel my uterus was incredibly swollen and was now worried that a fibroid I had mentioned having (previously the size of a golf ball) was likely now the size of a baseball.

Upon completing the physical exam, before she even began with tools, I was bleeding. Which concerned her.

She then ordered an ultrasound and said once all the tests were back, we would meet. She did not remove or replace the IUD because it seemed to be in the right place with no abnormalities.

I have the ultrasound on the 6th to confirm the IUD and check my fibroid size/any sign of recent pregnancy but I have attached my pap results here.

Does this mean I have mRNA from ALL 14 strains? I know it’s not a guarantee of cancer but since I’ve been having a lot of these symptoms for a year or more, is it likely that I’ve had HPV for that long and the infection hasn’t been resolved on its own?

Sorry, I know it’s long. I’m just freaking out and trying to do my best to get some relief.
