Anxious over ultrasound results - should I push for a biopsy?
I (31F) went to my PCP a couple weeks ago due to unexplained waves of fatigue and low vitamin D. I have one lymph node in my neck that has been swollen for over a year. My doctor ordered an ultrasound and I got the results back yesterday and I am a bit concerned.
The results were:
The area of concern right neck level 2, there is a 1.8 x 2 x 0.7 cm morphologically normal-appearing lymph node.
The visualized thyroid gland appears normal in size with normal parenchymal echogenicity and vascularity. There are multiple thyroid nodules. The largest solid-appearing nodule is in the isthmus to the right side. The details of this nodule is as follows:
Size: 2 x 0.9 cm
Location: Isthmus;
Imaging features: Solid/almost completely solid, isoechoic, wider than tall, smooth margins, no echogenic foci.
ACR TI-RADS risk category: TR 3, moderately suspicious.
ACR TI-RADS recommendation: The nodule meets the criteria for follow-up at 1, 3 and 5 years.
My concern is mostly the area in which it was found. They also did not document the exact number of nodules or the size.
Am I working myself up over nothing?
