Update 1.7.5 - Coaching carousel changes, coach skills, UI themes and more

hey everyone, the new patch is now live on the Google playstore and will be live on the iOS app store in the next day. There are some fairly chunky changes in this patch but they mainly revolve around one system so let me go through it.

Coach logic

I have completely reworked the coach logic for this patch, the coaches are now a living entity in the game, some will become really good and get poached by better clubs, some will get sacked, never to be heard from again, some will even go pro! The coaching carousel is now much livelier post season and it’s now even possible for other programs to try and poach you! I spent most of my time on this change so I’m really hoping there are some great stories that come out of this.

User Coach skills

There have been quite a few suggestions on things that should be done for coaching points. I have changed it a bit on this patch as follows:

  • All coaches now start at age 35, you can retire at any age but that will impact your reward (see below).
  • All user coaches now start at 50 in all attributes. This means only elite coaches will end up getting to 99 before turning 75.
  • There are now 5 passive skills users can purchase at any point of their career, they provide benefits such as in-game performance, recruitment, development and NIL specific issues like NIL amount/retention (only 4 skills in classic).
  • To enhance this even further, on retirement at age 75, you will receive a legacy token. This works in a similar way to how prestige works in CoD where a token will permanently unlock one of the five skills. There are 4 tiers to unlock, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum, with each tier givnig higher bonuses. So theoretically, you can now spend 20 careers in one save before you unlock all skills fully. I’ve seen people that have played 400+ years so this should finally give you a reward for the longer saves.

Smaller changes

  • UI Themes are finally available! If you are sick of the orange colour then there’s several new presets to try.
  • The games now saves a lot more data relating to coaches, so you’ll now be able to see how you rank amongst the best coaches in your save.
  • The records screen has been changed a bit to hopefully be a bit clearer, this screen was a nightmare to code before and I’m hoping things are easier to find now.
  • Small bug fixes and balancing changes.

Just as an FYI, i’ll start working on the MTEs/NIT patch soon, however that will probably be the last major patch for a while since it’s getting to a stage where I feel like me taking a break from it for a bit will help me have clearer thoughts about the game’s future.

Update 1.7.3 - Conference realignment, prestige formula change and more

PLEASE UPDATE YOUR APPS AGAIN, I JUST SENT THROUGH AN EMERGENCY HOTFIX FOR AN ISSUE!

The new update is now out! This is actually a really big update because it changes a few things, however they are mainly in the background so it may not look obvious immediately!

Conference realignment

The main change is conference realignment is now available! You will get an offer to change conferences if you are clearly above the remaining teams in your prestige. ATM each conference is categorised by ‘tiers’, once you join a conference of a certain tier then you can’t move around that same tier, you can only move up to a new tier. I can adjust this if needed later but the main implementation was the ability to move conferences. Also, as this is the first release and there could be issues with bugs etc, all AI conference realignments will be approved by default but you will have an option to reject them if needed.

Donor pool movement

You can now move between nil tiers with the same program. Teams starting at tier E with essentially no donor pools can eventually become a Tier S powerhouse with millions in their donor pool. Note that this has been set up so that it takes a while (25+ seasons to go from E to A/S).

Prestige/Expected wins formula change

This is the one I am excited about the most because a lot of work has gone into this, prestige changes will now be more of a grind, going from a 30 prestige program to a 95 prestige program will take a lot longer. You’ll also see way less AI teams at 95 prestige in the long-term. The old formula for prestige change was primarily driven off expected wins (which was purely based on prestige), the current formula uses a new expected wins formula (based on your actual SOS) along with other tournament performances, etc. You’ll clearly see a preseason expectations which will help you understand the performance level needed.

The full update notes are below:

  • Conference realignment
  • New prestige formula, it is much harder now for a team to move up prestige until they consistently perform well.
  • New expected wins formula
  • Added better support for national tournaments of different sizes.
  • Fixed series record to show current season records as well.
  • Higher potential lower overall players now expect more playing time, adjustments to redshirting elite player logic.
  • Expanded international names.
  • Change from state distances to pipelines.
  • Made the game more efficient post season.
  • Added a search button to the team picker.
  • You can now release players from the recruiting screen
  • Moved a lot of NIL info into the data packs

Need your thoughts on conference realignment

As the title suggests, I'm looking into conference realignment atm, I wanted to get people's opinion on what they think it should look like.

Would you want crazy changes in conference or should certain conferences keep their prestigious teams and it mainly just adds/removes teams from the bottom tier etc, I haven't thought about this too much so am quite flexible atm!

Update 1.7.1 now live - Redshirting, NIL Player valuation changes, new detailed roster screen

Hey everyone, thank you to everyone that has provided me with feedback since the NIL release, there were quite a few small changes made in this patch, no new features but just tuning a lot of stuff related to NIL.

The main stuff is that the game will now clearly show you when redshirting will cause a player to leave and it will show you more info on the minutes the recruit expects to play next year.

Another change was to the NIL valuation system, the previous patch inflated the values of players that had high potential even if their overall was low, making them have ridiulous demands. This has been tuned so that the player valuation places more emphasis on current overall.

I've been seeing some discussion on the draft system, I've had mixed opinions on it with some people loving it and some people thinking its too aggresive at removing Freshmen, I haven't changed it this patch but have opened a thread on discord for more discussion :)

Full changelog:

  • Recruitment and redshirting screens will show more information about a recruits EMPG and the risk of redshirting them.
  • NIL unhappiness now considers the recruits contract price so that it does not trigger unhappiness immediately.
  • Fixed an issue with total minutes being averaged when determining happiness, now it uses the current minutes at the checkpoints.
  • Fixed an issue with the Top 100 showing 70 players, now shows top 100 by overall regardless of whether they were portal/HS.
  • Fixed an issue with final four brackets.
  • Fixed an instance of the committed NIL being greater than the budget.
  • Tweaked the nil preference so lower tiers have more players that don’t care about NIL.
  • Added a detailed roster view screen.
  • The team sheet now shows their projected seed if the tournament was to happen today, it assumes no auto bids.
  • Tuned the player valuation system, the values are now more OVR driven than potential driven.
  • Fixed a UI issue with redshirting screen showing transfer info in classic mode.
  • Tuned the NIL bonuses for making tournaments.
  • Changed UI a bit to communicate unhappy final year players better than showing it as transfer risk.
  • Added more info on players in opposition team sheets, including stats and portal tags.
  • Fixed an issue with save files showing old teams in the load screen.
  • Added a small amount of XP for bench players.
  • Fixed a UI issue with post grad lines being shown for favourited players.
  • Most developed players, hall of famers and drafted players now show jersey numbers.
  • Fixed an issue with portal players still showing portal exits after they transfer.

Campus Hoops: NIL and Transfer Portal live, calling everyone playing CD!

Hey everyone, just wanted to let people know that latest Campus Hoops update now has the Transfer Portal and NIL (along with a few other smaller things):

https://www.reddit.com/r/campushoops/comments/1tec62y/update_17_campus_hoops_nil_era_is_now_live_on_ios/

You should definitely give it a go if you are still playing CD and want to try something new! I've attached some screenshots from our community.

I’ve tried to be as faithful to CD as possible while making this game, the main benefits over CD are:

  • All 365 D1 teams and 29 conferences, with the full 68 team tournament experience.
  • Modern ranking system including AP, NET, WAB, Quad scores, Four factors, etc.
  • Recruiting is very similar (and just as frustrating…).
  • The UI has been modernised to use design guidelines from the modern era, it may take a bit to get used to but once you do it’s a breeze I promise!
  • The game tracks a ridiculous amount of stats, even more than CD, all the while being performant on long saves. These aren’t jsut stats for your own team, it tracks all teams, conferences, past season highlights, conference/national records. Seriously there’s a lot of stats, if you are the type of person that wants to dig through stats then you will love this.
  • Redshirting (optional).
  • NIL/Portal, these are new and also optional.
  • There are probably a bunch of other things but I can’t list them all here!

We have a really great discord with a bunch of old CD vets as well as people that never played CD, please join and ask any qns! You can also get links to the real teams and we have great people working on community rosters too:

https://discord.gg/Abe6SvfbAt

We also have a small but active community on reddit:

Here are the appstore links:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.akshaybasrur.collegebasketballdynasty&gl=US

I’ve put a lot of time into this game to ensure it is fun to play, if you have played it and still prefer CD over this then I would be very interested to know why as it would help me improve it (please DM me!).

Hey all, I released a college basketball coaching sim a few weeks ago and thought this was a good time to post here. I think the latest patch has put it in a good place where it's nice and stable (albeit could still be unbalanced!)

I built this for people who loved Campus Dynasty and wanted something that's easy to just pick up and play. The goal was keeping the depth that enthusiasts want, while making it easy to pick up for new players, here's the app link:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/campus-hoops-basketball-coach/id6761870135

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.akshaybasrur.collegebasketballdynasty

The main changes compared to CD are:

  • 365 teams across 31 conferences
  • Bubble teams determined using a mix of NET, WAB, and a few other factors, so it feels as close to real NCAA selection as I could get it. Full 68-team national tournament.
  • 4 stage recruiting, with roughly 1,600 HS recruits per year.
  • A LOT of stats and records tracked — per team, per conference, and nationally. If you're the kind of person who loves digging through record books, I think you'll really enjoy this one.

The game itself is free. There's an optional one-time purchase for the premium version that gives you 5 save slots, access to the full stats/records screens, and a few other small extras, but you don't need it to enjoy the game at all.

Real team names and logo file is available on the Discord if you want to ask questions or just chat about the game (or just post here):

https://discord.gg/Abe6SvfbAt

Also if you're on X, a like or repost would genuinely mean a lot!

There's also a subreddit for it here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/campushoops/

I've had a lot of great feedback for this and there are people that have spent quite a bit of time on it already!

P.S. if you give me a bad vibe score then I'm gonna cry :'(
