Exploring the Mythos

One of my favorite things about Call of Cthulhu is that all of the monsters and deities are from published stories. Having the Malleus Monstorum has led me to seek out other authors who contributed to the mythos.

I am currently reading The Inhabitant Of The Lake and Other Unwelcome Tenants by Ramsey Campbell and loving it. Two questions for the subreddit:

  1. Has anyone read Campbell's other mythos works, aka The Revelations of Gla'aki or The Three Births of Daoloth trilogy? If so, are they worth hunting down?

  2. Who is your favorite mythos writer outside of H.P. Lovecraft?

Hp Lovecraft Tier List

Haven't read the dream cycle and am probably missing some key works, but these are the ones I had in my Cthulhu Mythos collection plus a few extras. I found reading these extremely helpful in running Call of Cthulhu as a keeper.

Classic Campaigns

While it is certainly simple to convert a classic campaign to 7e, I would love to see more of these campaigns given the 7e treatment a la Masks and HotOE.

Anyone know if there are plans for the OG, Shadow of Yog-Sothoth, or Beyond the Mountains of Madness getting the update?

Would you be interested in a 7e version of these classics?

First Call of Cthulhu Campaign!

I've run a bunch of one shots so far (Haunting, Lightless Beacon, Edge of Darkness, Crak'd and Crook'd Manse, Crimson Letters, and more..) and I was looking forward to a lengthier campaign with my players that wouldn't end with me spending every waking moment trying to manage it. (Looking at you Masks) So I settled on this sucker because I was thinking of homebrewing a Mi-Go based campaign anyways. I have read a lot of advice and criticisms about this module, but what I've read so far is so cool and I am stoked to run this with my group. I will give a full report on my experience when we're done!

Horror on the Orient Express the Board Game

I keep seeing ads for this product. I honestly don't understand what it is. Is it just the campaign without a Keeper role? Is it the campaign with extra props and minis?

Has anyone tried this game?

Masks of Nyarlathotep

The hype is high, as is the price-point. I'm not looking to run this in the near future, as I want a little more experience under my belt as a Keeper. I'm fairly experienced but I want to run at least one longer campaign before I take a crack at this beast.

That said, is this worth aspiring to? Do people have a good time with this as a player? Is this fun to run as a Keeper? Is the runtime even feasible?

A Time to Harvest

I want to run this with my players soon. For those of you who have run this, how long should my players expect to dedicate to this if we played every two weeks for 4-6 hours?

More Cthulhu

I discovered this system last fall and became immediately enthralled with the chaotic gameplay, the fascinating utilization of Lovecraftian lore, the wealth of horrifying published scenarios both at Chaosium and in the Miskatonic Repository, and I've run a few scenarios and have plans for more and am even going to do some convention games.

But I really wish I could play this game so much more. I don't have a group who can play every other week. I want to try running a campaign. I want to play as an investigator. I want to try out making my own scenario. I want to try running a modern or future or Regency or Gaslight game.

Does anyone else go about their day job and their everyday life fantasizing about the plots of the Mi-Go or unleashing Dark Young? Or is it just me?

A Time for Harvest

I'm curious about this campaign, but I hear mixed things about it. If you like it, why do you like it? If you don't, why not?

Weapon handouts

I find that new players are unfamiliar with the rules for combat, so I started making little handouts for scenario specific weapons or more common weapons that players characters can find.

This way I don't have to look up stats in session or repeatedly review firearm rules etc. It's nice having the base skill rolls available as well for players that don't have points in Fighting (Sword) for example.

Thoughts?

Themed snacks

I like to make mythos themed pretzels whenever I start a new scenario with my players.
