Scroll-ring magnets. These pass over the hall sensors (the little chip in the upper-left corner), which generate signal that the cpu detects as scrolling. Works perfectly!

The mouse works great and is sooo satisfying to use. The scroll ring bearings offer a buttery-smooth experience that is fun to use and easy on the wrists. I plan to print a tent to further enhance hand-positioning and comfort.

Just musing, interested in community feedback. I'm building jfedor's scroll-ring trackball (pictured) and have fallen in love with its bearing design. Sooo satisfying to use. :)

For my next build, I'm thinking about adding an additional scroll-ring, so that it has an inner-ring and outer-ring that scroll independently of one another.

Another spin on this idea could be to combine his twist-to-scroll design with the scroll-ring (pictured).

What do you think -- could it be comfortable or more fun to use? Anyone tried this before?
