One baby in the nest and one egg but parents aren't here

Hello! Yesterday mama pigeon was here, but this morning she is away. The baby looks like it might be about 8 days old, maybe a little younger? And there is an unhatched egg in the nest as well. Is it normal for Mama to leave this young of a baby and an unhatched egg in order to feed? How long should I wait before concluing that baby needs help and bringing it inside? And how in the world do I feed a baby this young / do I need to get her to a bird rescue ASAP?

Lone pigeon sitting on eggs

A pigeon family built a nest on my porch -- it's very sweet. But over the past several days I have only seen one pigeon (I think it's mama) incubating the eggs. I don't see them change shifts -- it's the same pigeon out there whenever I look, morning or evening. I'm starting to get worried that something happened to this pigeon's mate. Will my porch pigeon starve? Is it ok to help somehow (by leaving food or water nearby)? I live in a large urban are and don't know if any wildlife rehabilitators would help with a pigeon.
