Been no contact for around 7 years. Got married a month ago. Parents finally kicked me off the family phone plan yesterday.

I know it’s silly. Years ago I tried to transfer my phone number to a separate plan, but couldn’t because my dad is the account owner or whatever. They said I’d have to get a new number. I figured he would kick me off at some point and I’d deal with it then because losing the phone number I’ve had for 15+ years seemed inconvenient, and hey I could save $50/month for however long.

“However long” ended up being 7 years. Dad would try to call once or twice a year, but he’s blocked. Annoyingly, voicemails still come through. The tone was always “enough of this already, get over it and get back in line.”

I got married one month ago. They weren’t invited. I only invited my closest friends and family who have been supportive and understanding. It was lovely. I don’t regret it.

I’m sure they heard about it by now. I guess that was their last straw. Yesterday my phone suddenly had no cell service. Phone store confirmed the line was cancelled by the account owner and I can’t transfer the number. I have a new phone number for the first time since I first got a cell phone as a teen. A number they don’t have. They can’t reach me.

I have a lot of mixed feelings. It feels like they finally “gave up.” Which feels good and bad. I feel free but also sad? I don’t know why.

Anyone relate?

The weekend we got married had rain on and off and temps in the 50s. Our venue is outdoor only, so a large tent was the only option for coverage. We were also considering patio heaters so people wouldn’t be shivering all night. I reached out to a few vendors for quotes and they were so expensive: $3.5k-5k. (I’m in Southern California, so everything is super expensive.)

I discussed with our venue and they mentioned the wedding happening there the day before us booked a tent and heaters. They said they’d contact the vendor for us to see if we could keep it until the next day for a discount. They ended up giving us like 65% off since it didn’t require any additional setup/pick up on their end! We were able to get it for $1300. Definitely a stressful decision, and I’m glad we had the finances for it, but it really make a big difference in the temperature and was a relief to not worry about the rain.

Just wanted to share in case anyone else is worrying about what to do if they need a tent or other rentals.
