C64 Polychrome 3D gfx engine colour testing

C64 Polychrome 3D gfx engine colour testing

Too gaudy?

Moving on to add some interesting and dear say it unique to C64 raycasters graphical/engine upgrades, aimed at improving many aspects of the engine. So to end this era of 3D polychrome, did some quick and nasty colour/aesthetics testing to see it out.

Will be interesting to compare later on with future improved even more flexible feature set.

New changes could turn out to be a complete disaster mind you lol....

C64's most/least colourful realtime 3D game engine?

Ok, provocative contradictory opening question aside, just "Added" monochrome rendering to the PETSCII 3D polychrome game engine(interspliced segments and end of vid), to see what C64's 3 greys with white and black could muster in the 3D PETSCII 1 Mhz real time raycast rendering domain.

C64 PETSCII polychrome raycast racing?

From chapter 6 of my devlog video documenting arguably the C64s most colourful 1 Mhz real time 3D engine, The Polychrome Raycast Gfx engine.

C64 polychrome raycaster

thought should give my PETSCII raycaster an ominous/mysterious production vibe to build suspense for next update...

C64 PETSCII polychrome raycaster: Chapter 5 - Detail Map Animation

1Mhz a VIC II and a CBM 64 game engine dream...
Got side tracked into animating detail maps instead of extending destructible map implementation. What you think look groovy or overdone?
Notice the foreground ground texture has subtle parallax and the sky even more subtle modulation? Just some basic stuff first as test possibilities.
Chopin's raindrop prelude seems to really vibe with PETSCII raycasting for some reason, I'm sure he would have been a SID master if grew up in the right era lol.

Feel free to critique I need feedback to improve the engine!!!

New C64 PETSCII 3d raycasting engine now with detail mapping

Improved C64 multitasking kernal raster code for new 3D petscii engine to make polychrome PETSCII raycasting more colourful and detailed. Could only test simple possibilities as too many configurations and the more complex ones like shadows, atmospheric and other effects take too much time at the moment to test So should look even better when get around to it. However many other things to do in the interim first....

Added a rudimentary 3D vector gfx engine for my dual bitmap overlay to augment raycaster or other game genre when desired.
Is double buffered flicker free, raster flexible positioning with PETSCII hologram technology(tm)!

Updating an old C64 3d PETSCII engine made years back into a hybrid raycasting engine which multiplexes a dual vector GFX bitmap overlay.
Hopefully looks nice and colourful like the Atari 800XL(see polychrome testing).
Hopefully can make a C64 Elite/Wolfenstein hybrid or some else entirely with the dual gfx engine.
Will probably work on off randomly over next few months. Lots to do so little time...
