Leomund’s Tiny Hat Sucks! Opinions?

*Caveat: I’m old! Oldschool. Trying to stay in tune and often failing.*

What TF is the BS intention of this spell?

Just to circumvent drain dynamic and the preciousness of looking stylish as fuck?

Bu the wording of the spell, imo, with the precise 8 hour duration, the ’stylish and protective’ depiction, shielding from threats, it seems obvious it is meant to warrant a long rest anywhere. Anyhow! There are exploits. I will cover them below. But the INTENTION seems clear.

What the hell were they thinking?

This is antithetical to what I always thought D&D was.

Resources; spell-slots, HP, potions etc… are valuable and precious. The opportunity of looking fly as hell, which just about resets everything in 5e because "I rolled a nat 20 on persuade" hard counters everything, precious! My preeeeciousssss!

Yet here we get… a RITUAL enabled spell intending to offer dope-ass headgear in any dire dungeon or situation.

What do you guys think?

*The exploits/misses: You can see beneath it. Meaning you can still get petrified, if the DM is harsh, by a sufficiently seductive medusa. It is, as far as I read, immune to anti-magic dispelling it, and also it's tiny so you kind of look like one of those creepy clowns with putatively entertaining miniscule headgear*

Still: THE INTENTION of the spell disgusts me! (An oldschool D&D gamer).
