Distinction for arts

Hello! Congrats to those who graduated. Now that the convocations have happened, I’m wondering what the range for distinction was? Thank you!

Cheap movers

Hi guys, I’m moving by myself at end of July. I have furniture (bed, desk, couch). I need to move, cuz I can’t do it myself. Does anyone know of a cheap student friendly moving company? Thanks!

Grad school applications

Hi everyone!

I go to one of the ‘top’ schools in Canada (east coast) and am entering my final year of a joint honours degree in English literature and philosophy.
I am stressed! I need to start looking at schools. Originally I was gonna go to law school, which I still plan on doing, but I don’t think I’m done with English just yet!

Some stats: I am an underrepresented minority (Black woman), I am involved in extracurriculars, I used to be in a different science major so my cumulative GPA when I graduate will be a projected 3.745, and my combined program GPA of English and philosophy from my final 2 years is a projected 3.98.

In terms of letters of recommendation. I was thinking I would ask my thesis supervisor for one. I’ve taken 2 classes with her and we have a lot of rapport. For the second letter, I could ask my philosophy thesis supervisor but I know her less. Any suggestions on the best ppl to ask for letters would be appreciated.

I am currently leaning towards a one year MA program, but am wondering what people think is more beneficial: 1 or 2 years?

I also intend to apply for SSHRC. I want to get as much funding as possible, as receiving a masters would be so expensive without it. If you know of any other funding streams to check out, I would be most appreciative.

And then finally, the only school I have really looked at as of yet is university of Toronto. I am not opposed to leaving the country, I just need funding! Do any good schools in the states have a Masters program and also funding for international (Canadian) students? I know majority of them do a PhD track. Also was looking at the UK.

Any thoughts, experience, or opinions are greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Sfu editing certificate / any others (like queens)

Hello, I’m currently a third year English student. I’m about to enter my final year and will be writing an honours thesis. Over the past year I have gained a significant interest in editing. I’m thinking about perhaps pursuing it as a career. I’m currently involved with my schools newspaper as a section editor. I’ve also had one of my essays published in my departments journal. I was thinking that over the summer I could take the SFU editing certificate. However, I’m seeing that I can take anywhere from eight months to five years. Is eight months feasible? I think that this course could be of interest to me because it would allow me to gain certification in what I like, but it would also aid me in my writing I think. However, the cost is looking quite steep. Maybe if I cannot gain full certification are there certain courses that people would recommend? I also was looking at Queens because it’s cheap cheaper and quick quicker. However, I’ve heard that I can be harder for people who are not as well equipped. Thank you in advance.

Feedback and criticism pls

Hi! I posted a while back, maybe a year ago. But I made this during Covid. But ever since life got back to normal I’ve not embroidered since. But I was really proud of this at the time. I wanna get back into embroidery, but I actually remember absolutely nothing but I do have all my supplies still. What would you have done to make this piece better? And how do I get back into it? I don’t know how else I would’ve done the face, but I don’t like how the lines are so long maybe I could’ve done shorter strokes? Thank you in advance!

What is the avg gpa in arts?

Hello, I graduate next year. I’m interested in making distinction but I’m unsure about where I stand. I should graduate with a 3.745 CGPA. I know that distinction is the top 25% and it’s relative to how other people in your year perform. But I don’t actually know what the median grade is for arts.

Hello! I have decent handwriting, but only when I write rlly slow. I find I do better in class when I hand write my notes so I’m not distracted by my computer. But when I have to write rlly fast my writing becomes intelligible and I also get lazy w it. So often times I will rewrite my notes after class, but that’s so time consuming. How can I improve my handwriting so I can write faster and it can be nice to look at? I have the summer to improve before I go back to uni end of august . Thanks!
