i miss saturday morning lifting with friends

Back when I had a gym membership, i would invite friends to my place saturday morning. Before they got there, i would walk over to the mcdonalds and order a bunch of mcmuffins and hashbrowns. We would hang out, share energy drinks/pre workout, and eat mcdonalds until we were stuffed. After, we would walk through the city to my anytime fitness. They charge $5 a guest, and you were only allowed one guest, but they didn’t really staff it on saturdays so i would just FOB in my friends. There was a buzzer that went off when you snuck someone in but i just told them to ignore it. It was fun convincing the more straightlaced friends “its sometimes ok to break little rules.”

I typically workout for about an hour, but with friends it would regularly turn into 2 or more because we’d be sharing machines, letting people work in, and just talking about life and joking around

One of my friends had been doing HIIT classes, and asked if she could lead us in a cooldown abs session after lifting one day. This turned into a ritual where after every saturday, we’d make time at the end to let her larp fitness instructor and put all these strong men through the most torturous ab hell she could.

And we could see each other all getting stronger. Hashbrowns and friendship were the greatest PR fuel you could imagine. Afterwards we’d all walk back, and just non-chalantly hang until the weekends next obligation came about.

I cancelled my membership due to an injury and do home gym now, but its one of the things i miss most. Whenever i get mcdonalds breakfast, i think of them.
