question about Shahada
Long story short, a brother wanted to embrace Islam and take the Shahada. However, another brother at our local masjid told him not to, arguing that the Shahada as a complete statement is not found in the Qur’an, and that there is no verse explicitly instructing someone to take a formal Shahada to become Muslim.
He also claimed that the Shahada is derived from hadith, which he does not accept as authentic. Additionally, part of the Shahada involves testifying that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Which he argues as nonnecessary.
This left me confused. Can someone explain what the Quranic way is for a person to embrace Islam?
