Does coding increase fluid intelligence?

been wondering about this for a while.

do you guys think learning to code can actually increase fluid intelligence, or does it just make you better at programming?

coding involves a lot of logical reasoning, pattern recognition, problem solving, and abstract thinking, so i can see why people say it helps. but i also feel like people with higher fluid intelligence might just be more likely to get into programming in the first place.

if you have been coding for a few years, have you noticed any changes outside of programming? like getting better at iq tests, puzzles, learning new things, or reasoning in general? or were the improvements mostly programming-specific?

also, if anyone has seen any actual research on this, i would be interested.

How can I improve my Processing Speed (IQ Profile)

Hi everyone,

Im a student, and my psychologist recently administered the WISC-V intelligence test. Im making this post because my results show a very interesting cognitive profile.

For example, I scored 135 on Working Memory, 152 on Quantitative Reasoning, and 146 on Nonverbal Comprehension, among other high scores. The issue is that my Processing Speed Index was only 98.

I have read in many places that intelligence is not completely unchangable and that some cognitive abilities can improve over time. From what I've seen, processing speed seems to be one of the areas with the greatest potential for improvement.

I believe my overall IQ profile would be much stronger if I could increase my processing speed by even a few points. It would also make my cognitive profile much more balanced, because theres a 54 point difference between my highest and lowest index, which seems like a very large gap.

So Id like to ask if anyone knows of any evidence based ways to improve processing speed. My goal isn't just to get a better score on a test I want to become a more well-rounded person, a better student, and perform closer to my potential.

Im still quite young, so I hope that neuroplasticity gives me a good chance to improve in this area. I would really appreciate any advice, personal experiences, or research you can share.

Thanks!
