from Phonak Virto Titanium B90 ( 9 years old ) to Danalogic Ambio Smart (5 years old )
Hello, so after 9 years wearing the Virto B90 ( titanium shell inside the ear) i decided to replace them with something "newer" cause i don't understand speech unless the person is right in from of me.
Nhs ( in UK) gave me for free these Danalogic Ambio Smart ( which are 5 years old ) and they go behind the ear.
First thing, WOW, they are louder and clearer, more brilliant high frequencies and they have also bluetooth which is great for phone calls.
BUT:
I still struggle a lot understanding speech, expecially in noisy enviornments like office, street, pubs, restaurands even dinner at home with a bunch of friends.
Watch tv is more or less the same, i struggle understanding everything, even watching the News where the voice is clear and without bg noise most of the time.
My audiometry graph shows a moderate loss the goes just a bit into the severe towards the mid/high frequences, the specch frequences, so i guess i'm what is called a "complicated case" to fix with hearing aids cause i'm nos super deaf but i'm deaf enough to not understand speech.
I tried other hearing aids in the past ( i use hearing aids since more or less 15 years ) and to be honest i start to be a bit disillusional about it.
Expecially in noisy conditions ( restaruants for istance ) i don't believe exists an hearing aids that can actually cut out all the surrounding noise and focus on the person that you are trying to understand talking.
It just doesn't exist and manufacturer should stop promoting new mega expensive models with the promise that you'll be able to follow a conversation at the pub like any other normal person. I don't know even one hard of hearing / deaf person who can follow a normal conversation at the pub with hearing aids.
Please find me one and i will change my mind and become more optimistic towards these devices. :-)
Oh, i forgot to mention that as you must have guessed already, i'm not english native ( i'm italian ) and when i'm in Rome, surrounded by italian speakers, the situation is less complicated , i understand more, so part of the issue is definitely the language.
But i live in anglophone countries since 20 years and understanding shouldn't be less of a problem ( my wife for istance she knows english exactly like me but she understand much better than me cause she can ear properly )
Thanks
