Paige will be 13..

..this month. Her vet diagnosed her with Dementia. I’m at a loss as to what to do about the sun downing. Paige starts around 5:30-7:30 AM, which is her bedtime, as a nocturnal creature. However, that’s when I’ve usually gotten almost enough sleep. That’s when Paige starts to yowl like she’s never going to see me again (we’re attached at the hip), because I’m “lost” in bed. Keep in mind we live in a studio apartment where the bed is always in clear view. I can’t keep Paige locked in the bathroom at night because that’s mean and makes things worse. I’ve tried calming treats and sprays to no effect. I’m seriously towards a nervous breakdown if I can’t get some good sleep. Besides noise canceling headphones, I don’t know what to do for my cat. Please help.

Greyhound Trait?

Lotus doesn’t pee all in one go. She pees, stops, we walk a little bit, she pees again, repeat three or four times. Is this a Greyhound trait or a Lotus quirk? She’s my first Grey and all my other dogs only needed one spot. Not sure how to Google this one, so I thought I’d ask here.

Dementia vent

Paige is turning 13 next month. Her vet and I have concluded Paige has Dementia. I need to vent about it, please.

This is my soul cat. We’ve been bonded at the hip since I brought her and her sister home when they were young kittens. I’m heartbroken at her mental decline.

It’s especially difficult because this isn’t my first rodeo. My paternal grandfather, who was amazing, and my maternal grandmother, who was also amazing and raised me since I was a year old both lived with Dementia.

I was the sole care taker for my grandmother and my maternal grandfather. She had mental struggles and he had physical struggles. Seeing my cat go through similar things my grandmother did it beyond painful. Paige gets “lost” in my bathroom (one she’s known for almost five years now), just like my grandmother got “lost” in the hallway of the house she lived 55 years in. Gram would look confused, like she didn’t know where she was. Paige gives me the same look now.

Paige sundowns at her nighttime. That tends to be around 5:30-8:30 AM, multiple times. She cries like she’s in pain, because she can’t find me even when she has access to me. She’s lost in her memories and wakes me up just as I’ve almost gotten enough sleep. It makes me constantly fatigued, sad, stressed, and worried.

8!

Happy birthday, Lotus! You’re eight years old today!
Later, I’m taking her on a walk to a touristy pet shop near me so I can get her a special toy or treat, her pick.
