[Routine Help] I’ve done everything I’ve can but nothing seems to work
This is my skin after cleansing with nothing but hydroboost and 345.
Context:
My skin:
- Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea, flares at almost
nothing
- Very sensitive in general, reacts to most things
- Acne prone. The acne is inflammatory and leaves really dark PIH marks
- Oily T-zone but severely dehydrated everywhere. If I don't moisturize the second I step out of the shower my skin gets tight and it actually hurts
- A LOT of open comedones
- Heavy creams give me acne and more comedones, so I'm stuck between "too light to hydrate" and "too heavy, breaks me out"
- Skin looks dull and dehydrated pretty much all the time
Climate: mild year round, 18-22C (65-72F), and extremely dry all the time. No real seasons, so I can't blame winter for the dehydration.
History: I did a course of an isotretinoid about 4 years ago and it helped a lot. My acne was drastically worse back then than it is now.
Current routine:
Am
: cleanse, Neutrogena Hydro Boost (sometimes mixed with Dr. Althea 345 Relief Cream or Mixsoon Glacier Water), sunscreen. Makeup is just cream blush and brow gel, nothing else.
PM: cleanse, then either azelaic acid (Rozelaic, prescribed by my derm) or Sinac (clindamycin + benzoyl peroxide) as a spot treatment if I have active acne, then the same moisturizer as the morning. My skin is noticeably fragile the next morning after either one.
What works:
- Bioderma Sensibio cleanser. Literally the only cleanser that doesn't set off my rosacea.
- Rozelaic (azelaic). I think it's helping, but I can never fade a mark before a new one shows up.
- Beauty of Joseon and SKIN1004 sunscreens, loved both.
What didn't work:
- Rilastil 72h - made my rosacea worse
- Uriage Water Jelly - broke me out and didn't hydrate at all
- Mixsoon Glacier Water - nothing
- SKIN1004 Centella Poremizing - felt like it did nothing
- Anua Rice 70 Glow Milky Toner - no visible effect (possible I'm using it wrong?)
- Avène Cleanance Comedomed - honestly not sure what it's supposed to do for me, I just keep using it
- Isdin protector tinted - pills over literally everything, I can't deal with it
This last one is my biggest issue!!
What I’m using now and why:
- Neutrogena Hydro Boost doesn't flare my rosacea, which is why I keep it, but I don't feel like it does anything for me either, and I go through a full jar every month
- Dr. Althea 345 Relief Cream, same story. I go through a 50ml tube a month, see no improvement in anything, and it costs more than Hydro Boost
- Mixsoon Bean Essence actually gave me glow, but I stopped and lost all of it
- Sinac works but genuinely burns my skin, so I barely use it
What I'm looking for:
- A tinted sunscreen that plays nice with other products and doesn't pill (I only wear cream blush over it, so it doesn't need to survive a full face of makeup)
- A moisturizer that ACTUALLY hydrates without being so occlusive it breaks me out
- Something for overall complexion / glow / the dark marks
- I’ve thought about reestarting oral isotretinoin but i honestly don’t want to
I’m open to any recommendations, tips and ways to improve my skin, and specially to stop wasting money on things that don’t work or just make things worse.
Thanks in advance!!!
