Nighttime Wee!

Hi guys,

I think crate training was the right flare to add here.

We’ve got a 12 week old puppy, who is generally doing really well. My biggest struggle is putting him down for a nap.

He doesn’t mind being in his crate, it’s not his favourite place but he tolerates it. He will have a cry/whinge for 10 mins but generally self-soothes and goes to sleep.

What I’m struggling with is his nighttime wees. At the time of writing this it’s 2:23am and I’ve been sat with him for about an hour.

He’s great at crying to let us know he needs to wee, but will not go back to sleep in the night without us sat in front of his crate. I’m at my wits end with it, I’m so tired

I can’t let him cry it out because we live in a semi.

Thanks!

Shopping for a new E-Reader

Hi guys,

My Kindle is no longer supported by Amazon so I'm in the market for a new E-Reader.

I had (and loved) the PaperWhite for the glare-free screen. I like the warmth and the fact the light doesn't hurt my eyes. I've tried using my iPad Mini but find my eyes so sore after a while, and don't like the distractions of other apps, or the fact I feel like I'm reading on a device.

I've been looking at Kobos as an alternative - I use Libby a lot for Audiobooks, and would love to use it for ebooks too - but all the screens seem quite digital?

I also use Kindle Unlimited a lot & send PDFs across too - is there a Kobo alternative?

I think I'd be looking at the new Paperwhite with the new button case, the Kobo Libra or the Kobo Clara.

Any advice/guidance about what I should get next would be greatly appreciated.

Struggling with Battery Levels & Power Saving Zone!

Hi guys,

I recently bought the Tractive Base Station, and have connected both my cats collars to it.

When just using WiFi as the power saving zone, their collars were lasting a week, if not longer. I’m lucky now if I get 3/4 days out of a charge.

I’ve also been struggling with the trackers not showing correct locations. I’m looking at one of my cats in my bedroom right now and it’s telling me he’s outside of the virtual fence.

Anyone else struggled with issues like this, or have any advice on things I might be doing wrong?

Ears!

Still waiting on our boys ears to stand! He’s 12 weeks today & the only sibling left without his ears standing & honestly I hope they stay how they are.

Most of the pups left home with their ears upright but his still aren’t there yet!

Spending time with puppy?

Hi guys,

I’d love some advice/reassurance. We are 3 weeks into life with our Eurasier pup. He is our absolute world and we adore him, but I feel guilty that I’m not spending enough time with him.

I’m the one that gets separation anxiety!

TLDR; how long should I be spending with my puppy?

I’m away from him 3 days a week in the office, but have friends/family pop in mid-morning and mid-afternoon and I’m home for 90 mins at lunch.

Our current routine is him normally waking up at about 5;30 for a wee, we take him out and then put him back in his crate where he settles himself back down until about 6:30/7. We then go onto a schedule of about 45mins-1hr awake, 2-3hrs asleep. We struggle a little in the evenings with him getting overtired due to mine and my partners coming home time, but he tends to settle for the night around 7:30/8pm. We then wake him around 10:30/11pm for a short toilet, settle/crate training and back to sleep.

I worry that I’m leaving him in his crate/pen for too long on his own, or not spending enough time with him. I am working this week on an indoor tether and trying to teach him to be calm outside of his pen (we’re also working on his self awareness of how sharp his teeth are!!)

We started using positive only reinforcement but quickly learnt that he did not thrive with that so have adapted to balanced training and he is doing so much better both in and out of his pen.

Thank you!

Chews/Chew Toys for 11 week old puppy

Hi all,

I have a 11 week old Eurasier who is generally good as gold. He is obviously teething like any puppy at his age. We have the typical chew toys (nylabones and bamboodles), but he is choosing to chew my coffee table everytime.

I'm trying to find something that still gives him that satisfying crunch that he seems to be after, rather than just something to gnaw on. I'm trying to avoid anything animal based for now after an emergency vet visit last week after choking on a lamb skin braid that a trainer gave him.

Thanks!

Pet First Aid Kit

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a list of things I would need for in a first aid kit for both cats and dogs please!

Our cat came home with a cut paw last night and I realised I had nothing for him, so I want to build up a kit!

Thanks! :)

Crate Training/Enforcing Naps!

Hi guys,

We are currently in the 9 week old trenches with trying to enforce sleeping.

He was sleeping absolutely fine in a pen behind our sofa. It was a pen attached to his crate, and he was spending time in both. He has since figured out how to climb out of it, so we upgraded the height, but it is a foldaway pen and doesn't fit with his crate.

We removed the crate because he wasn't sleeping in it, and just had the taller pen, which he has also figured out how to escape from, so we have moved him into the kitchen where it is definitely puppy proof for when we're not home.

His crate training - he does really well going in and sitting and waiting for a treat, but as soon as he's eaten it he gets back out. If you wait a beat to give him his treat, he get's back out. If you pretend to stand up, he gets out. If you touch the door, he gets out. He absolutely hates the crate.

This lack of a space he can settle in means that he is NOT sleeping. I can sit with him for 30-40mins, and as soon as I move to leave him, he wakes back up and cries. He refuses to go down after 45mins-1hr (after play, food, water, toilet and training), and will just scream and scratch at his pen. This is obviously giving us a very bity puppy.

We can't confine him to the living room to nap, which means he is now in the kitchen, and his naps fall when we need to use the kitchen too, which I am trying to resolve.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!! I think he has FOMO and thinks as soon as he falls asleep we leave.

Signed, a very tired puppy parent.

Agria vs Petplan

Hi guys,

I'd appreciate some insurance advice! I'm currently weighing up Agria vs Petplan for my puppy.

I'm currently with PetPlan for my cats so will get a discount, BUT Agria Lifetime Premium with £20k cover is coming out at £54.62 per month vs PetPlan Lifetime Cover for £12k at £74.63 per month.

Is Petplan worth the extra £20 per month? Our breeder is also providing us with 5 weeks free Agria so we will have continuous cover.

Thanks!
