Working on a water softener install for my house last night. I had trouble identifying the drain for the softener. I figured it was the copper piece that was above the softener loop. After install I cut the softener loop and connected to the water softener with no issue. When running through and setting up the initial regeneration, I am getting water leaks from the drain connection that I have in the photo. Can’t tell if the water is coming back up from the copper piece, leaking from the shark bite fitting, or leaking from the black and red hose connection. I’m wondering if an air gap is needed to prevent the leak here. Any help would be appreciated.

I am doing a DIY water softener install I’m having trouble identifying where the drain line is. In the first photo, there’s a capped off copper line, and in the second photo there’s a copper piece above the softener loop. Which one of these would be the drain line for the water softener?
