Personal coat of arms
When I was 17, I wrote a research paper on the history of my family. As a result of that work, I designed a coat of arms, which was later effectively registered with the Ukrainian Heraldry Society as my personal coat of arms.
Several years later, I can see that it may be somewhat overloaded with elements, but I still find it beautiful and deeply meaningful.
The main idea behind the arms is to reflect the transformation of my family: from peasants who worked the land for centuries and owned small shops in our settlement, to scholars and educated professionals in the last two generations, including myself.
Here is the blazon:
Arms: Per fess; in chief Azure, an open book Argent, on its pages the letters “A” Azure and “Ω” Gules, above the book a sixteen-rayed smiling sun Or, flanked by two six-rayed faceted stars Argent; in base Gules, a wheat sheaf Or bound with a thread Azure, flanked by two bunches of grapes Argent, each with three leaves.
The shield is crowned with a steel helmet mantled Azure doubled Argent, attached by a wreath Argent and Azure.
Crest: An owl Or.
There is also a larger version of the achievement with supporters: two lions Or, langued Gules and armed Argent. However, I do not currently use this “greater” version with supporters.
Motto: On a scroll Argent, the motto in Azure: “З ВІРОЮ У СЕБЕ” — “With Faith in Oneself.”
I am now considering whether it makes sense to change anything in it, and whether it would be logical and legally acceptable to simplify it — or whether I should leave it as it was originally conceived.
Is It Realistic to Find a PhD Supervisor in Ireland with a Ukrainian Master’s Degree?
Hi everyone! Is it realistic to find a PhD supervisor in Ireland if I have a master’s degree from Ukraine?
I would really like to pursue a PhD here, but I am not sure how the process of finding a supervisor works or how open Irish universities are to applicants with Ukrainian qualifications.
My research interests include history, journalism/media studies, and the impact of collective trauma on society. I would be very grateful for any advice on approaching potential supervisors or choosing the right university.
Where can I buy a Traveler’s Notebook in Dublin?
Hi everyone!
Does anyone know where I can buy a Traveler’s Notebook, Regular Size in Dublin? I’m looking for the original Traveler’s Company one, preferably in a physical shop rather than ordering online.
I’ve checked a few general stationery/book shops, but haven’t found it yet. Maybe someone has seen it in a local stationery store, art supply shop, or concept store?
Thanks in advance!
