Post birthday party with ex and AP

A follow up to my post from earlier this week https://www.reddit.com/r/survivinginfidelity/s/UTOutPUanE

TLDR - Ex partner / wife of 13 years had an affair with a friend. 3 years ago - we split. We had to make last minute changes so she hosted a garden party inviting the ap and his daughter and my gf and her daughter.

I didn’t want to go, but actually there were some good points about seeing how he interacts with my son and getting a sense of what’s going on.

I turned up at the party and he was there, I had decided I would avoid him and just not acknowledge him. Me ex father in law made some conversation with me and chatted small with me. My ex and the AP were in the shaded area so me and the gf were out in the baking sun with the kids in the paddling pool and trampoline.

It was at that point I realized that I had actually got the exact same under shirt on. I then chose to swelter in embarrassment in my over shirt as well as T-shirt in about 30 degree heat. I know we are similar; in all honesty I see his attraction he’s got a great paying job that carries a lot of prestige. I’m an average ( but better looking) guy and I would say I have more charisma and definitely more empathy .

I had brought over some ice pops to cool down the kids but they didn’t freeze in tube so I went to the local shops to pick up ice creams for everyone and felt like a hero as soon as I came back all the kids mobbed me for ice creams. The APs daughter came over to us and was annoyingly nice. But the whole afternoon he barely seemed to talk to anyone even including his daughter. Just looking sheepish and even my ex in laws didn’t seem to chat to him.

My ex came over a couple of times and was nice enough. I expected this and it turns out that she has said to my ex whilst I was away that she would like to set up a play date …. Without me there. I kindly asked my gf to put that in the diary for October 32nd.

I came away from it all with a lot of closure. It sucked a lot of the time but I’m glad I was there for my son and stepped up. Thanks for those who have given advice and good luck to everyone going through this whatever stage you are at .

Advice needed: co parenting for a birthday party.

Background on this is my ex had an affair 3 years ago. She’s still with the AP who I knew. My son is 6 now and has mainly lived with me since and I’ve got a rock solid bond with him and me and my ex coparent amicably.

We had a party booked at a local gym l which literally burned down last week so she has offered to host last minute at her house as it’s on her day and a free option as we haven’t got the money back yet.

My ex asked if I wanted to invite my girlfriend and her daughter so she could invite AP and his daughter to the original party which felt ok as it was a neutral venue. I’ve literally seen AP once since the affair and I felt the blood boil for a minute of 2 and then passed into a state of not my problem, I’m not going to speak to him because anything he would say to me I would probably just smack him if in an enclosed environment.

There’s also going to be her family there and a couple of the school mums there who I don’t particularly have time for as well as the AP. there’s 2 people in particular I’d like to see who I’ve arranged the following day - these are people who saw me through the separation and they are travelling 300 miles to see us and haven’t seen them since November.

Looking at my ex I am absolutely relieved to be shot of her and don’t miss her, we coparent well enough and can sit in a room and be civil. I just don’t want to be around this whole situation because there are more things I’d rather avoid than see. I have a motto of if you don’t like something or someone then stay away and that’s the message I tell my son but equally I want to be the bigger man and still show up to my sons party. Any advice or anecdotes on this I’d really appreciate.
