are we serious dawg

(warning for long rant i guess)

the audacity to call people who find the vatican offensive "media illiterate" as you actively and purposefully neglect why so many people think it's distasteful... the jokes just write themselves atp 😭😭 yes commenter on the first image, you very much need to be educated

this argument (referring to the second person) is genuinely so stupid because we obviously know what the damn message is, yes melanie calls out the hypocrisy of religious people who are homophobic yet abusers themselves (or at least tries to... as we know, it's not done very well) but the problem lies in the very well documented stereotype of gay men being labeled as predators and pedophiles (which is still widely used by homophobes literally everywhere) that she clearly pushes in the lyrics of the song. to act like it's unreasonable for queer people (like myself and many others) to be uncomfortable with lyrics that obviously connect being gay with child abuse (something our community has been pushing back against for DECADES, if not longer) quite frankly disingenuous. even if melanie didn't intend to equate the two (which i honestly doubt), intent doesn't really matter in cases like this because harmful narratives about a marginalized group are still being pushed out whether it's intentional or not

another thing i want to mention, saying "i've seen queer men who relate to this song" is also honestly just a shitty counterargument and barely one at that because as i've mentioned, i've seen plenty of queer people that find the song offensive and i'm one of them. neither group speaks for every queer person and how they interpret the song and to try and say one side does (that is, the side that you agree with the most) is, again, disingenuous.

i have religious trauma myself and understanding the "message" of the song doesn't mean i have to like it and it doesn't make me or other people critical of it "media illiterate," these people are just so quick to throw that term out when someone doesn't agree with whatever their precious angel says, and i guess that's pretty much the tl;dr of this post, thanks for reading my yap session if you made it this far

idiot found in the wild

yeah this is just straight bs... not only has melanie said herself multiple times that none of those songs are about oliver, none of those are lyrics in the song artemecia and you can look that up yourself 😭 i'm about 98% sure the rest of that comment is just reaching, idk why they're so insistent on continuing to spread shit their cult leader already said isn't true
