Small Update: Traction Battery Failure

So, nothing terribly too exciting, but it's been confirmed that my EV battery has gone bad and needs to be replaced.

Here's my issue.. the dealership is saying they have to get approval for the warranty replacement because this battery is (in their words) $35,000 and they haven't heard anything back. I have the 100k mile warranty so this is supposed to be a covered replacement...

Everything online is saying the dealership needs to either give me a loaner, or I have to pay out of pocket for a rental to get reimbursed after the fact (definitely can't afford that). I can technically work from home, but my job is getting pissy about me coming back (totally understand why), and I'm being told the warranty HAS to be approved BEFORE I can get a loaner or reimbursement for a rental..

It's only been one day and I'm just having horrible anxiety, so I don't want to jump to reach out to KIA corporate just yet.. but I'm not sure if I need to just call corporate at this point. It makes sense to at least give it 24-48hrs for a response first right?

Apologies for the long rant... I'm just having lots of thoughts and stress right now. 😔

Yelp.. it finally happened..

UPDATE #1: The service technician reached out and said the main EV battery was indeed toast. I asked about my 12v battery, they said that one is fine... So now it's a waiting game to see if/when the kia warranty folks will approve it. I was told that can take up to 48 hrs, and then up to 2 weeks for the battery to come in, plus time to remove the old one and install the new one.. 🫠

2020 Kia Niro EV with 67k miles

I reached out for advice about my "power limited (turtle)" light coming on intermittently about a month or so ago.

End of May: I took it to the dealership and after having it for 3 days, they couldn't replicate the issue... So I took the car back and didn't have anymore issues.

Currently: it's been in the triple digits here in AZ and this morning, that light came on not once, not twice, but 10 times before it actually started decelerating my car. I got off the freeway and into an empty parking lot. When I stopped it, the "check EV system" light came on and the indicator stayed on. The red battery light came on briefly, then turned off.

I called a tow truck and when he arrived, he drove it slowly onto the bed and said the turtle light came back on when he did that. I had it towed to the dealership and was advised it's possibly the EV battery finally degraded to the point where it needs to be replaced... I have the 100k mile warranty so it should be covered.

If anyone else has had this happen, what was your experience like? Did it take a long time to get the new battery in and installed?

This is beyond frustrating, but it's bound to happen eventually.. 😔

Randomly getting the turtle light - low power mode when battery is not low. 2020 EV

Hello! So I'm wondering if this is an issue I need to address.

Location: Mesa, AZ, USA

For the last couple of months, the low power mode (turtle light) would pop up while I'm driving. First it would be after going over a surprise bump in the road, but it randomly happened yesterday on the way to work in the morning. It didn't drive any different and the warning went away seconds later. My car had 64% battery level at the time.

I haven't reached out to a mechanic yet because it's so random and spread out, I replaced the 12 volt battery last September, and it had routine maintenance in January.

Has this happened to anyone else? Should I be concerned? Is it possible that it's just because my car has 65k miles on it and it's already a 6 year old car?

Thank you all in advance!
