Malicious compliance in the chemistry lab.

I worked in a chemistry testing lab for a while. For those of you that don't know, it is pretty common to have a "list of posted documents." When a document (procedure, work instruction, etc.) gets posted in the lab it gets added to the list of posted documents. That way if a new version gets updated it gets updated where it is posted in the lab.

Well we had this really old hot water bath. It was so ancient that the temperature dial didn't even have the degrees each setting corresponded to. It just had the numbers 1-10. So every time somebody used it at a new setting they would write on a post-it note that was on the front of the water bath what temp it got to.

I knew that our internal auditor was coming for an audit and I also new that this post-it note was technically a posted document. So I added it to the posted documents list! I also gave it a really long title because I thought that was funny. Something like "Thermo brand hot water bath temperature dial conversion to degrees Celsius chart." When the auditor saw it she said I was "being a smartass." 🤭

My uncle killed himself. I'm devastated.

He looked so much like my dad. He was a twin (but not with my dad) but everyone said he looked more like my dad than his actual twin. They worked the same profession and had the same hobbies (woodworking). I don't know what to do. He would host a 4th of July party every year. I didn't go this year. I told my coworker that "there is always next year." She said don't say that. She was right. I'm devastated.

Computer refusing to boot. Dead motherboard (Gigabyte B850 Aorus Elite WIFI7) the most likely culprit?

My beloved computer ("the potato") that I assembled about a year ago refuses to turn on and I am wondering if a dead motherboard is the most likely culprit. It was acting buggy and slow so I decided to to a full reboot (I don't reboot often). After that it just refused to turn on. Fans didn't spin and it didn't give me any error LEDs/beeps. I had it set to have very minimal RGB lighting only on the motherboard and that lit up. The light on my USB DAC and USB microphone lit up so I have to imagine the PSU is giving me power. I tried to use the power and reset buttons physically located on the motherboard and that didn't do anything. I took out the CMOS battery for 15mins and put it back in and now the RGB mobo lighting doesn't even light up.

The computer never worked perfectly but it was 98% there. The computer would need reboots because it would get buggy/laggy occasionally (maybe every 1 month?) and sometimes it didn't start up the first time I tried to turn it back on. One or two of the VGA/CPU/BOOT/DRAM red LEDs on my motherboard would light up for a couple of seconds while booting up (is this normal?). Also the temp readout on the CPU cooler would only work ~20% of the time (I would think that since they were both Gigabyte products there would be better compatibility), but I always assumed this was a driver issue even though I did install new drivers when I put the computer together.

  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B850 Aorus Elite WIFI7
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  • GPU: Gigabyte AORUS ELITE Radeon RX 9070 XT
  • Memory: G.Skill Flare X5 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30
  • PSU: Corsair RM1000x *OS: Windows 11 home edition

All other components (which I don't think have anything to do with the issue) are pictured here.

Thanks for any help.
