My Royal Nemesis - This didn't earn what it asked me to feel

A drama with an excellent premise that never quite fulfilled its potential. The first half is engaging, funny and charming, but the second half becomes bogged down in an overlong villain storyline and increasingly melodramatic plotting. Lim Ji-yeon is enjoyable when allowed to be quirky, but the script eventually reduces her to reacting and crying too often. Heo Nam-jun grows into the role, yet the romance never convincingly earns the depth of feeling the story asks us to believe. The supernatural mythology is intriguing but muddled, leaving the finale emotionally satisfying for some viewers but logically underexplained. Worth watching once, but not one I'd revisit. 7/10
