Writing music for random redditors (post 1: for Sylvain)

Hello all,

I wrote a 4-minute string orchestra piece for a user on reddit.

This is my first time posting my music here; I am rather proud of myself for finally stepping out of my comfort zone. Feedback is appreciated

Writing music for random redditors

Hi guys,

This is a really silly post and idea I've gotten on this random Friday evening, but....I'd love to write some short pieces of music (min 30sec; max 1min) for some random redditors in the comments. I will just pick and choose the ones that stick out to me best. I may regret doing this, but oh well; truck it.

If any of you are interested, please provide me with some of the following details below about yourself! Any of this can be fake or troll, since I am going to pick and choose the comments anyway, but please do try and keep the responses brief!

Format your comment with the following:

  1. A First Name
  2. 1 min of your favorite piece of music (only one; if it's a very long work, put only a youtube link with a timestamp of up to a minute, like this: [1:05:45 - 1:06:45] )
  3. Your favorite emotion
  4. Your favorite instrument within a string quintet
  5. A memorable detail (choose only one):
    1. Something you love sharing about yourself
    2. A random fact that lives rent free in your head
    3. A piece of art you really like (link a picture)
    4. Something you value that can be summed in a singular idea (type it out or link a picture)

For context, I am just a random lurker and hermit composer on this subreddit who composes for a hobby. I am doing this just to have an excuse to compose, since I haven't done it in quite a few weeks due to lack of time.

My goal isn't primarily to receive feedback, but to give myself reasons to exercise composition and to write something that hopefully the selected redditor patrons like. Obviously, since this reddit, you all are free to give feedback about important technicalities, but just keep in mind that my main goal is for my patron to at least appreciate the song. Since I am too terrified to write for my IRL friends, I hope to get more practice writing some music for random but REAL people instead of just for myself or IRL patrons, and hope I learn and discover if I enjoy writing music for other people better than for myself.

I am giving myself a deadline of approx. one hour to write each reply...but I might stretch it to two hours depending on how the first one goes. I am thinking I can finish at least one snippet per day since I have done it a few times before. I am looking to finish these by next Sunday (roughly a week from now).

If your comment is selected, I will reply to your comment in this post and create a link to a new post in r/composer that will have:

  1. audio (mp3 cuz storage is expensive) of your snippet of music and
  2. a full score
  3. a link back to your original comment and
  4. a link back to this post

Hi all, first time poster here!

During my free time, I am working on deploying a vanilla minecraft bedrock server hosted from TrueNAS SCALE. I would like to set some world borders so the save file size is more manageable. However, after doing some research, I had a hard time finding consistent information on how to calculate the total file size, since I want to migrate the save file into a more powerful storage drive in the future.

My objectives:

  • I am interested in creating a world with 49 2048 x 2048 quadrants (If necessary, my backup plan is 25 quadrants). My hope is to be able to have a full-sized 4/4 in-game map of each quadrant while we play. I attached a picture for reference.
  • I would want to calculate the Nether and The End world sizes in this save too.
  • I want to know the best possible option(s) for a new storage drive when shopping for deals off my budget
  • I'd like for the server to handle 3-5 active players average; it likely wouldn't exceed 10 in the near future.

So my question is... how should I calculate the file size for this?

Server Details

OS: TrueNAS SCALE (Debian)

CPU: i7-6700k

RAM: 24GB DDR4

Boot: PNY CS900 120GB 3D NAND 2.5" SATA III*

Note: I plan to run the MC server off of this ANCIENT boot drive due to budget constraints, but I am still looking at better future options

Storage: 2 x 4TB HDD (RAID 1 mirroring)

Network specs:

500/50 download/upload

Tailscale VPN (TrueNAS used as Exit Node)
