Guesses for Honey Bear !? + skin allergy tips?

Estimated to be ~8 months old, adopted her at 5 months. Spent the first few months of her life as a stray before being rescued. ~18 pounds.

Also - Honey recently has been experiencing some hair loss and we have been trying different things with the vet - apoquel then cytopoint injection for environmental allergies, plus on a hydrolyzed protein diet for 8 weeks….

So far no signs of improvement, shes lost a lot of hair on her legs and tummy (can kinda tell in 2nd pic in front seat, has happened really fast in last month or so) 😞 we got the Embark DNA + Health test so hoping that may give some insights! 🤞

Coming off of a 2 year career break and cant seem to get an offer. Advice on how to improve??

I am 30 years old and will have been on a career break for almost 2 years this summer. It started due to an unexpected loss in my immediate family that really devastated us. To complicate things further, the person we lost was in charge of our small family business and I was the one that had to step in and deal with all of the joys that come with financials, taxes and legal stuff related to closing out that business. Between that and the grief, it took up about a year of my time.

I decided this past fall that I was ready to re-enter my career, however, I have been having an extremely hard time… I tailor my resume for most apps and do get a lot of recruiter screens, some hiring mgr rounds and for a handful of final rounds too, but have yet to receive any offers. Here are some details on my professional experience and my thoughts, and resume details at the end:

  • I have ~7 years of experience post undergrad, not including the 2 year break. On my resume you can see the natural progression I had from Financial Analyst -> Senior FA -> Business Operations Analyst -> Senior BOA -> Asst Manager of Strategy (my last full time role)
  • Roles im targeting: Due to my break, I don’t personally feel at the Asst Manager level I was at when I left, so ive been mostly targeting regular Analyst roles and some Senior Analyst. I apply for roles in FP&A, Biz Ops/gen ops, Sales/Rev Ops, Strategy, etc.
  • Career break positioning: I met with a career coach last year who advised that I don’t bring up the break unless asked, and then have a spiel prepared that lightly explains the situation but highlights the positives ive been doing in my time off and emphasizes that im ready to re-enter. I feel okay explaining this and haven’t had any strange reactions; though I recently switched from waiting for them to ask to addressing it myself, as ive found that some people don’t ask and I worry theyre making assumptions about the timeline on my resume.

My thoughts:

I have been wondering if perhaps my resume is confusing when im applying to borderline entry level positions. I recognize im slightly over-qualified for those, but I also feel like I need a re-introduction to work after my traumatic 2 years, so I feel underqualified for higher level positions. It also doesn’t help that my longest job history is about 2.5 years. Between 3 (!) layoffs in my career and the break, im worried I look unstable.

I know part of it is also likely my own confidence in interviews which ive been working on, but this job hunt has done a number on my psyche….It’s frustrating when I can name multiple examples of where ive performed the EXACT duties in their job description, yet later find out im not a good fit.

I have always been a hard worker and received glowing reviews throughout my career. I’ve formed strong connections from my jobs and genuinely enjoyed the positions I was in, but life happened.

Recruiters - what are your thoughts when looking at a resume and a situation like mine?? any advice on types of roles to focus on, positioning, resume edits etc??

Resume summary:

  • Asst Mgr of Strategy @ global financial services company
    • 6 months in 2024, when the loss occurred and I had to leave work
  • Senior Business Operations Analyst @ global consulting firm
    • 2.5 years, position affected by mass layoffs
  • Financial & Operations Analyst @ early stage startup
    • 9 months, laid off due to the startup shutting down their US operations and moving to Europe
  • Financial Analyst @ global hospitality company
    • 1 year 3 months, laid off April 2020 when COVID hit hospitality industry hard
  • FA then Senior Financial Analyst (licensed broker) @  leading global investment bank
    • 1.5 years, the only position I actually left on my own (besides career break). This was my first full-time job after undergrad and was in private wealth. I wanted to get into corporate FP&A and I successfully did this by starting my MBA and obtaining my next role at the hospitality company.
  • Education
    • BBA in Finance
    • MBA with concentrations in Accounting and Operations Research
    • I also taught online finance courses as a side gig for one year during COVID at a local community college

Struggling to find a job after almost 2 year career break despite decent experience. Guidance on how to position myself ?

I am 30 years old and will have been on a career break for almost 2 years this summer. It initially was started due to unexpected loss in my immediate family that really devastated my family. To only complicate things further, the person we lost was in charge of our small family business and I was the one that had to step in and deal with all of the joys that come with financials, taxes and legal stuff related to the close out of that business. Between that and the grief, it honestly took up about one year of my time.

I then decided this past fall that I was ready to re-enter my career, which mainly has spanned Finance and Operations (see details below). However, I have been having an extremely hard time getting to an offer.  Here are some details on my professional experience and my thoughts:

  • I have ~7 years of experience post undergrad, which is not including the 2 year break. On my resume you can see the natural progression I had from Financial Analyst -> Senior FA -> Business Operations Analyst -> Senior BOA - > Asst Manager of Strategy (my last full time role)
  • Roles im targeting: Due to my break, I don’t personally feel at the level of Asst Manager that I was at when I left, and I recognize this so ive been mostly targeting Senior Analyst or regular Analyst roles. I apply for roles in FP&A, Biz Ops/ gen ops,  Sales/Rev Ops, Strategy, etc.
  • I consistently get recruiter screenings and often hiring manager interviews, and even a handful of final rounds; but something isn’t clicking. I know part of it is likely my own confidence in interviews which ive been working on and feel like im getting better each time, but its frustrating when I have an interview where I can name multiple examples of where ive performed the EXACT duties in their job description, yet later find out im not a good fit.
  • career break positioning; I had met with a career coach last year for advice on how to get the job search process started and positioning, and they had advised that I don’t bring up the break unless I was asked, and then to have a spiel prepared that lightly explains the situation but highlights the positives ive been doing in my time off and emphasizes that im ready to re-enter. I feel okay explaining this and haven’t had any strange reactions; though I recently switched from waiting for them to ask to addressing it myself, as Ive found that some people don’t ask me and I feel worried that theyre making assumptions about timeline on my resume…

My thoughts:

It also doesn’t help that my longest job history is about 2.5 years. Between 3 (!) layoffs in my career and the career break, im worried I look unstable…

Seeking advice on what types of positions I should be targeting, how to position myself, if I should tamper down my resume a bit more, and your thoughts on talking about my career break…. This job hunt has done a number on my psyche. I have always been a hard worker, and received glowing reviews throughout my career. I've formed strong connections and friends from my jobs and genuinely enjoyed the positions I was in, but life happened. Appreciate any tips or thoughts anyone can give!
