genuine passion in tech, doomerism makes me want to pivot. should i? where to?

first year student so if theres a time to pivot, it would be now.
i neglected college forever for many reasons, so a 4 year degree that has the capacity to pay me well is very important.
i have a very strong passion in tech, hence me wanting to get a bachelor’s in CS. particularly in cybersecurity and networking
but jesus christ, i know this job market is bad right now but its extremely disheartening for anyone left who is passionate. people really talk like it will never get better, and that you’re pissing your money and life away if you get into this field.

no one can predict the market but its extremely hard to stay positive anymore. it makes me want to pivot but i have no clue as to what.
my other passions would make significantly less money, are just as difficult to get into, or have awful work-life balance (marine biology, environmental science. basically anything to do with animal preservation or nature)

if i could roll back time and go into the medical field i would. i’d love to be a dermatologist or anesthesiologist but i absolutely do not have the time or money for a 8+ year degree.

i considered engineering of any sort but i simply dont have the passion to carry me through the hell that is engineering academics.

i feel quite lost and directionless

high dmg wizard and/or sorcerer subclass that isn’t op

looking for a pure spellcast build and i really love sorcerers and wizards.
i’m already looking at mods that add in a bunch of unique spells, but what are some good subclasses for these guys?
i want something as balanced as possible, not OP at all. i enjoy tactician mode so challenging combat is important to me

i really love wizards lore-wise, and i love being able to learn from scrolls. i just wish there were more options for damage? not that wizards cant be good at that in vanilla, but if you want a high damage spellcaster you pick sorcerer. i’m interested in a mod that makes wizards on par with them—just still a wizard.
or alternatively a good sorc subclass!

i was excited for GTA6 until now

physical edition obviously is dead, and we will own nothing. but can we talk about the base game being $80 and you need to cough up an extra $20 to have access to cars, car modding, weapons, outfits, LOCATIONS and STORY CONTENT????
a deluxe edition having a fancy version of a car, maybe some cosmetics fine. that all feels relatively normal

but holy shit, car mods, buildings/shops and side missions? this is all bad enough by itself but with this being the largest game of all time, the ripple effect it’s gonna have on the industry is terrifying. gaming, or at least AAA gaming, has been on a rapid decline and it’s only going to get worse.

imagine being immersed asf, going to mod your car. you know. in a GTA game. and you get kicked out because you spent $80 instead of $100 lmao

absolutely ridiculous. then of course them forcing you to double dip with holding off on a pc release, because god forbid a billion dollar company might lose out on a few more billions.
i was on the fence on buying at first, blinded by hype, but now i’m just gonna wait for a steam sale in a few years. it’s just not worth full price to me, and although i love the R\* games themselves, the company is setting an extremely awful precedent

underrated RPGs that will make me lose track of time

not really looking for the mainstream and popular recs like The Witcher, Skyrim, New Vegas, etc. i’m looking for something that i likely haven’t played already and isn’t everyone’s default answer when you mention an rpg.

the genre is typically pretty hit or miss for me. i either get completely invested or bored all within the first half hour.
two that have successfully sucked me in fully are RDR and BG3. the Fable reboot is my most anticipated game. i’m kinda chasing that same itch (especially BG3) and i’m hoping to catch a good game or two in this summer sale.

i’m in the mood for a fantasy vibe, custom character, with a solid story. i want consequences, magic, a world that doesn’t feel lifeless. lots of action
combat has to be challenging and engaging. i find if i can breeze through combat, i get bored quickly.
no casual/cozy or super open ended games with no definitive goal. when i’m given too much freedom (minecraft, stardew valley) i get choice paralysis and sink into boredom. i need something to keep me on my feet, whether its story, exploration, combat, or all three.

thinking about it, i’m just describing BG3 lmao. it by no means has to be a direct comparison (like i’m already eyeing the Divinity Original Sin games for that reason) but something similar enough i guess!
