Silicone scar tape and TMI🫣

I used silicone scar tape for the first time (9wpo). I loved the way it felt, made my incisions feel “secure” (arms and tummy). Took it off tonight to shower after about 36 hours. Took the arms off. No problem. Peeled off the belly….. what is that smell??🤔. It was me!!! This foul, rancid, ass smell!! Like if you’ve ever had a bandaid on too long and it smells like the gunk that builds up on the back of your earrings or an unwashed belly button stink!! WTF! I am super clean, and I really don’t sweat a lot, despite having a pretty physical job!! I pray that I haven’t been nose blind, walking around stinking!! I pray that the stink was trapped under the tape!! Has this ever happened to anyone else?!? I’m afraid to use it now!!!!😓

Lumpy……

Does anyone else look “lumpy”? I’m 9wpo, and I feel like I don’t look great like everyone else….. I did go into this looking to look good in clothes, and not to be a Barbie, but sometimes I wonder if all of the discomfort and $ was worth it! Maybe it’s just a bad case of PMS or something, but my arms (brachioplasty) are so damned swollen, tight, and uncomfortable, and my belly is tight, possibly swollen (?), and cock-eyed 🥴. Maybe it’s just my mood. I’ve been back to work for 2 weeks and it’s SO taxing and stressful (ER nurse), and this fucking heatwave we’re having in NH is killing me😭😭. Someone give me words of encouragement 😜 Was it worth it, or did I just go from looking “melted” to looking deformed?

F/47/5’7”[297>160=137](7+years) It’s been a LONG journey!!

From lap band, to gastric bypass, to GLP-1, to plastic surgery 🥴. It’s been a wild ride. Only 7 weeks post-op!

I survived!!

I’ve been in panic mode for the past week. 7wpo TT w MR and brachioplasty, survived my 1st 12 hour shift as an ER nurse back at work today. I am SO uncomfortable 😣. I have 11.5 hours to “repair” and get back for my second shift, then I’m off for 3 days!! If financially possible, I definitely would’ve taken 10+ weeks off, because being done with my first shift, I don’t think I was ready 🥴

6 WPO

I’m a simple gal, and I went into this looking for improvement, and not perfection. I am 47, and a married mama to 5 kids. I just wanted to not have a constant muffin top, not have a “front butt” in tight pants, and be able to wear a tank top without my wings slapping someone in the face. Presently 6.5wpo brachioplasty and tummy tuck. Recovery hasn’t been awesome, and the arms were/are a much more difficult recovery than the TT, in my opinion. But, here I am. Not perfect, but so improved!! I’ve lost 125lbs, my kangaroo pouch, and my wings!! 😬

Pressure/compression

I am almost 7wpo tummy tuck and brachioplasty. I am only comfortable with compression over all of my incision sites. Although everything is closed and healing well, I can’t explain it, everything feels “unstable” without some form of pressure. Shirts with super tight sleeves and super tight yoga pants, or obviously compression garments, which my surgeon states I don’t need anymore.
I guess the point is, does this feeling go away? Like will I ever be able to be comfy in baggy sweats and a tank top?? I had surgery so that I could show my arms, yet, I NEED to keep them covered 😭😭😭

Belly button—popular topic today

Why is my belly button so ugly? I hate how it’s darker pigmentation in the middle, and I hate the little dots surrounding it from the sutures. I’m no plastic surgeon, I’m an RN, and I really think he left my stitches in too long!! He took some of them off around 18dpo, and the rest around 25dpo. Isn’t that a LONG time for stitches?? I’m currently 6wpo. It’s so ugly looking!! Like a cat’s butthole!! Anyone that had similar and is how further out that is willing to share pics??

New here!!

Hello, All!! I’m new here, and have an incredibly long abs boring road to where I am now!! In short form, I’ve been overweight since age 8. I’ve done every diet you can possibly think of, starting “Slim Fast” shakes and Weight Watchers at age 13!! In addition, I had the lap-band for 13 years, which was equivalent to a human torture device, and eventually in 2018 had that removed and proceeded with gastric bypass. Even the bypass only did so much. I got from 297lbs down to 179.9lbs in one year with the bypass, but by 2024, I was back up to around 245 lbs, give or take. I then discovered Semaglutide, and religiously counting calories using My Fitness Pal app. Calories in-Calories out has been the only thing that seems to work for me long term, because I don’t really pay too close of attention to macros, really just focus on calories, and of course the med helps with portion control. This way I never feel deprived, because I eat whatever I want in moderation. I am SO close to goal weight, now weighing 153lbs at 5’7”. I am 6 weeks post-op brachioplasty and abdominoplasty!! What a road it has been!! This pic is of me about 1 month after gastric bypass, so appx 245lbs, to now, at 153lbs! Thanks for reading!! I’ve been combing through posts while recovering from surgery, and there are so many helpful tips!!

Story time for those of us bored and recovering

A will be 5wpo tomorrow, ETT w/ MR and brachioplasty. I had a hair appointment today, and the salon is in a downtown area building with no parking lot. There are a couple of municipal parking lots within walking distance that you can pay to park, so I obviously parked within that lot, walked the short distance to the hair salon, and up the three flights of stairs (because the elevator is always out of order) to the salon. I already felt tired once I got there. I have long hair and I get copious amounts of blonde highlights, plus a cut blow dry and style. I underestimated how uncomfortable it would be to sit in a hairdressing chair for four hours, and also how uncomfortable it would be laying back in the hair washing chair! Plus, I am so intelligent I thought it would be nice to wear jeans for the first time today, so that my outfit would be cute to match my hair! AnyWho, already hurting, I left my hair appointment and decided I needed something to eat. There is a cute little deli that has great subs half mile from the hair salon. Same situation, in that it is a municipal parking lot/street parking type of business. So in all of my wisdom, I thought it made the most sense to stay parked where I was, and walk 0.5 miles to and from the sandwich shop, in 85° weather, after being relatively sedentary for the last 4 weeks. Needless to say, I’m now home and want to die. My arms feel so swollen, and my abdominal incision is burning like fire. How on earth am I gonna go back to work in 2 weeks if a one mile slow walk nearly killed me???!😣. For reference, I work 12 hour shifts as an ER nurse in a crazy busy hospital.

More progress pics

I know I post frequently, but when I tell you, the body I see in the mirror, and the body I see in my mind are two completely different things. I literally can not believe this is MY body. I’ve struggled with obesity my whole life. I was a preemie born at 28 weeks’ gestation with chronic lung problems and Asthma. I was grossly underweight until age 7. Then I was on steroids constantly to keep my Asthma under control. The steroids, mixed with genetics, and growing up with very poor eating habits helped me get up to 297 lbs!! I have had a LONG journey of dealing with a failed lap band for 13 years, followed by gastric bypass, which worked initially but most of the weight eventually found me again. Somewhere in the mix of all of this, I had 4 pregnancies, one set of twins, so 5 children in a span of 6 years. In July 2024 I started Semaglutide. That, with mild exercise, worked better than any surgery, and I got to my lowest adult weight of 153lbs @ 5’7”. And now I’m 4 weeks post-op tummy tuck and brachioplasty, and it doesn’t feel real!! If you made it through, thanks for reading my novel!!

4 weeks post-op!

Aside from the swelling which feels never ending, and the damned seromas that I keep getting, I’m starting to feel that it was worth it. I honestly went into it not looking for perfection, just improvement, and I think I’m well on my way. I had brachioplasty as well, and my arm incisions look amazing, like you’d think my surgery was 6 months ago. The belly is being a bit more stubborn.

Progress!

So I posted a before/after pic the other day, 3 weeks post tummy tuck and brachioplasty. I had a tank top on, because my belly button still looks crazy with stitches, that are hopefully coming out tomorrow!! Some folks had asked for a tummy photo, so, here it is, 25 days post op! Still swelling around incision, which is why I have my undies over the incision. I was SO swollen and boxy that I couldn’t even look in the mirror. I had agonizing regret. I am FINALLY starting to see some progress and feel excited!! Any input?

Also adding, I’m a 47 year old mom of 5 who has lost 125lbs. I’m not looking to be a swimsuit model, I just want to feel comfortable in my own skin. I wanted to not have bat wings flopping in the breeze, or have a “front butt” whenever my pants had a seam up the middle!

Silly question?

How do I know if I had a regular tummy tuck or an extended tummy tuck? Is extended the same as 360 LBL? Just wondering because some incisions terminate at the hips? Mine goes around my hips to my back, but the incision does not go all the way around. Of course I could ask my surgeon, this is just a curiosity thing.

Shaving 🪒

Just here to say, that my “girl” needed a shave, as I’m a lifelong shaver, and 3 weeks of growth was making me feel uncomfortable and dirty. (I’m 3 weeks post-op)This was the first time in my entire life that I used my eyes to shave! 👀👀👀I have had to “shave by feel” my entire life, and now, I can just look down and see what I am doing. My mind is totally blown. Anyone that has lived with an apron belly their whole lives will understand this post. That is all, carry on. 😸🪒

3 weeks post op!

Okayyyyy! It’s been a bumpy ride these 3 weeks, but, for the first time, I’m seeing a little light at the end of the tunnel! I’m a simple gal, my lifelong dream has been to comfortably wear a tank top and jeans, but due to flabby excess skin on tummy after 125lb weight loss and carrying 5 babies, one set of twins, and horrible bat wings since my teens, I was never able. 3 weeks post-op TT and brachioplasty. Arms are still pretty swollen, and I’m carrying excess swelling in hips/thighs, but I think I’m FINALLY on the up swing!! Day of surgery vs this morning!

Slightly panicking

It is 1am here, and I’m not experiencing an emergency that requires the ER, so nothing can be done at this exact moment. But, I just woke to my pajama pants and underwear soaked in one side. Went to inspect it, and noticed yellowish fluid dribbling from a microscopic hole in my TT incision. I pressed around the area gently and was able to express what I approximate to be about 20ml of thicker yellow fluid. It has absolutely no odor. I pressed all around until it literally made “farting” noises and the last of the fluid sputtered out. I put a dressing over it. I’m 2 weeks post op, so obviously it is a little painful and a little numb. But I’m also dealing with a nasty contact dermatitis which I’m on steroids for, so it’s virtually impossible to distinguish if the redness is the contact dermatitis that we’re treating, or if I have cellulitis or an abscess. Today was the FIRST DAY that I’ve felt good! Cooked dinner and went grocery shopping!! Interestingly, I had my drain pulled on Monday, and developed an isolated, low grade fever (100.6) a couple hours after the drain was removed. Surgeon said not to worry if it didn’t come back (it didn’t). And I wouldn’t be as alarmed if this fluid was coming out of the “drain hole”, but it’s the opposite end of the incision🥴. Could it just be fluid built up from removing the drain and it somehow found a small opening and escaped that way??? I know the answer here is to call the surgeon in the morning, but now I can’t sleep, don’t want to wake my hubby, and hoping someone, somewhere is awake and has any clue!!!❤️
In any event, I’m glad I just typed it all out 🤣

Hips and thighs

Is it normal for my hips and thighs to be massively swollen 18 DPO tummy tuck?? My problem area was always my belly and never my thighs. My one thigh is now the size of two previously!! Is this normal? If so, how long will it last?

Rash

Ignore the disgusting swelling. 17DPO. Drain yanked today. Surgeon thinks it’s a contact dermatitis and prescribed oral and topical steroids. After my appointment, about 3 hours liter, I was out to lunch with my mom and developed shaking chills and a pounding headache. Temp 100.6. Called the office, but got answering machine. I guess I’m just worried that this is cellulitis and not dermatitis. For reference it is ITCHY, BURNING, as rough as sandpaper, and weeping serous fluid. Anyone have similar or work in medicine? I’m an RN, but dermatology is not my specialty. TIA!!

Feminine hygiene

I am appalled at the amount of women who use only water to clean their vulva! While I know that the actual vagina, as in the birth canal, is self cleaning, the vulva (labia minora, clitoris, perineum, labia majora) ALL absolutely deserve soapy, warm water washes daily! There are secretions, blood, urine, sweat, and potentially semen down there! How on earth does plain water clean that? If you get urine on your hands, do you not use soap to clean it?? I have always used a clean wash cloth with Dove soap, scrubbed from front to back, and thoroughly rinsed with warm water. I just ASSumed this was common practice, until I read about the masses that think water alone does the trick. 🥴🥴🥴. That is like the folks only using water on their anus. You wouldn’t use plain water to clean poop off of your hands!!

“Phantom Belly”?

I’m 12 DPO, and sitting here all bloated, when I go to rest my arm on my belly, it feels as though I’m expecting my “tire” to be there, but it’s not 🤣. Like phantom limb, I guess. Does that make sense. Like I feel like if you were looking g at me, I’d still have my big over the belly button roll, but it’s gone….
Day of surgery vs 8DPO. Also, is anyone else’s incision super uneven like this? Do you think it’s just swelling difference or truly this asymmetrical?🥴
