Trying to buy a new Edge and Not get scammed

Made a previous post on tips of buying a new edge as a 1st car. I also mentioned one i found that is 2002 GT Automatic, “45k original miles”.
I did a carfax car care history pull and it shows me 223k miles. The seller also seems confused about it since she claims she’s owned it for a decade. She only just didn’t renew the registration 2024 because she didn’t drive it.
She also sent me a screenshot from a website GoodCars.com as a History pull and it shows 45k miles. Also mentioned she “didnt put 20 miles on it last year”. It also has 3 previous owner from which she bought from her neighbor.

My question is if anyone’s used this website and if it’s accurate.
I’ve researched if you could pull the OG miles from an OBD 2 scanner, but it says its not possible. That its a cluster storage and it could only be changed if the dash cluster was swapped. Any advice helps.

New Edge as a first car?

I’ve been trying to look into what car i should get as my 1st.
I know the everyone says getting a honda accord or civic, toyota camry and so on are the best brands for a 1st car.
In MD i see a lot of crazy listing, sellers prices for these cars are wild. People want $7,500+ for these cars that have over 170k miles with rebuilt titles or its been abused.
I have been especially keeping an eye for a honda accord coupe’s, lexus is250/350, and new edges. I recently found a 2002 new edge GT with 45k miles that has no very minor paint fades and good condition interior for $7k. The only problems they listed is a “small AC leak and front balljoint replacement”.
I’ve done a lot of research on these cars, including that its probably not best if you live in a state that snows or its going to be expensive if you aren’t mechanically inclined/own tools.

  1. I can’t say that i’m mechanically inclined, but i’ve helped my father do maintenance on his toyota, hondas, ford. Specifically oil changed, brakes etc. and we own some power tools.

Anyway anything i missed or advice is helpful!
