Bit of play in steering wheel

New owner of 02 GT. Anyone have had a similar issue? More noticeable when driving than sitting.

Trying to buy a new Edge and Not get scammed

Made a previous post on tips of buying a new edge as a 1st car. I also mentioned one i found that is 2002 GT Automatic, “45k original miles”.
I did a carfax car care history pull and it shows me 223k miles. The seller also seems confused about it since she claims she’s owned it for a decade. She only just didn’t renew the registration 2024 because she didn’t drive it.
She also sent me a screenshot from a website GoodCars.com as a History pull and it shows 45k miles. Also mentioned she “didnt put 20 miles on it last year”. It also has 3 previous owner from which she bought from her neighbor.

My question is if anyone’s used this website and if it’s accurate.
I’ve researched if you could pull the OG miles from an OBD 2 scanner, but it says its not possible. That its a cluster storage and it could only be changed if the dash cluster was swapped. Any advice helps.

Solar Trickle Charger Recommendations?

I had a scare this morning, went to start my 02 GT and got he Theft warning light, no start. It turned out just to be low voltage on my battery. Jumped it and all was well. I hadn't driven the it in about 2 weeks, so I'm looking to see what recommendations I can get on a solar trickle charger. I keep the car parked outside under a reflective car cover. Thanks!

Help! What is this scraping sound?

Some context:

2003 Mustang GT with Automatic Transmission. 31k miles. 30k mile service was done around 27k.

I ended up jacking the car up from the differential and taking the wheels off to spin the hubs to hear any scraping from the diff or wheel bearings and everything seemed fine. I did notice an ever so slight rub of the brake pads on the rotor when spinning the hubs and the pads were looking on the thinner side but nothing too crazy.

The only time i hear the sound is at low speeds like in parking lots and the sound only happens when the back wheels are unevenly loaded like while I’m turning around a corner or if the ground was not level. I don’t hear the scraping sound when driving in highway speeds.

Any ideas?

PSA to V6 owners for exhaust mods

I’m now swapping to a 302 motor and thought I should show what I run for my V6 exhaust before I toss it. At pretty much every autocross event or car meet I’ve brought my car to, every new person I meet seems to think my car is a GT, so it works for some people. The main thing, though, is that it just doesn’t sound like hot garbage, so I figured I’d show you how I run mine. (I don’t have any sound clips, sorry.)

This is the fourth exhaust system I’ve made for this car, and I’ve even developed harmonic calculators for college using it.
A few big things about the fundamentals of the harmonics on this car: a V6 fundamentally resonates at 3500 and 5500 rpm, which is generally where these cars sound like hot ass. You need resonators tuned for those specific bands. Luckily for you all, that’s why these cars come with four catalytic converters. The two 5-inch pre-cats are tuned for 5500, and the 14-inch main cats are tuned for 3500.

If you crack those cats open, you’ll find that they’re decently high-flowing. The main 14-inch cat only has about 20% that is actually a catalytic converter—the rest is an echo chamber to help stop resonating. I know it’s popular to go catless, but I would highly recommend against it. You won’t gain any power. The only change I made was deleting one of the 14-inch cats and combining both cylinder banks into a single 14-inch cat to help stabilize the exhaust pulse. (Y-pipes also give you a torque boost on V6s if you do it right.)
My entire system is 2.5 inches from the collector of the headers to the tailpipes. As you can see in the photo, the whole system is not a real X-pipe—you don’t want that anyway. You want the two pulses to combine into a single smooth one, then split again into Super 40s to the tips after that. The 3.8s have one really big thing going for them: they are 90-degree V6s, so they have a very harsh and deep tone. You need to take advantage of that while keeping it from resonating. This system works very well until the very high end, but even then it still sounds pretty damn good for most of the range.

Also exhaust leaks are persistent on these cars, I replaced all my donut collectors with V-band clamps and flex pipes

Any questions, feel free to reach out!

New Edge as a first car?

I’ve been trying to look into what car i should get as my 1st.
I know the everyone says getting a honda accord or civic, toyota camry and so on are the best brands for a 1st car.
In MD i see a lot of crazy listing, sellers prices for these cars are wild. People want $7,500+ for these cars that have over 170k miles with rebuilt titles or its been abused.
I have been especially keeping an eye for a honda accord coupe’s, lexus is250/350, and new edges. I recently found a 2002 new edge GT with 45k miles that has no very minor paint fades and good condition interior for $7k. The only problems they listed is a “small AC leak and front balljoint replacement”.
I’ve done a lot of research on these cars, including that its probably not best if you live in a state that snows or its going to be expensive if you aren’t mechanically inclined/own tools.

  1. I can’t say that i’m mechanically inclined, but i’ve helped my father do maintenance on his toyota, hondas, ford. Specifically oil changed, brakes etc. and we own some power tools.

Anyway anything i missed or advice is helpful!

Aluminum shift knob slipping/tacky when shifting gears

So a bit of a weird post but I’ve been having issues with this for a bit I have to constantly put my hand in front of A/C between shifts or my hand gets kinda tacky/ slippery

This makes rowing gears difficult, when I pull for 4th or second my hand almost slips off the shifter and if I just rest my hand on the shifter it almost sticks to it

I have cleaned it multiple times with hot water and dish soap on MF rag followed up by 99% iso is this just a me problem or the way aluminum reacts with sweaty palms

I don’t wanna be that guy that’s wears driving gloves but considering it or different material shift knob

Need help with steering wheel hub on a 2001 Mustang

Trying to replace my old steering wheel. It was seized so badly that while trying to pull it, the actual steering wheel/frame broke apart and left the center metal hub stuck on the steering shaft.
The original puller holes got damaged, we tried a claw puller with no luck, and then tried cutting relief slots into the remaining hub with an angle grinder. That didn’t get it loose either and I don’t want to keep grinding and accidentally damage the steering shaft/splines or clockspring. At this point I don’t care about saving any part of the old wheel. I just need to get this remaining hub off without destroying the steering column. Any ideas? And thank you guys for reading 🙏

2000 GT overheating after a while of driving

I can't say how long it takes confidently but it's probably somewhere about half an hour of driving after that the system begins to overheat at first it would spray coolant out of the reservoir cap so I replaced the cap, I haven't let it overheat since I replaced it but recently after replacing it I have smelt coolant through my vents which before was usually an indicator that it was spraying out of the reservoir cap and I would pull over because it was smoking under the hood since it was spraying out so much hot coolant but when I pulled over there was no smoking and the smell this time was only brief however the temperature continued to rise even while I drove it would go from 215 to 217 while driving before I pulled over and let it idle which is when it got upwards of 225°. Before I shut the car off and let it cool down, I'm not entirely sure what's going on I have replaced the intake manifold which came with a new thermostat so I know that the thermostat's not bad though I'll probably just end up taking it out at this point I just don't know what could be causing the car to drive perfectly normal and perfectly fine for about half an hour before it just decides it's going to start overheating excessively out of nowhere any and all help is appreciated

Finally swapping the motor

After a few years of beating the hell out of my 3.8 and autocrossing I’ve finally bought a motor for my swap, I am upgrading to a 1971 carbureted 302. For those of you who don’t know the T5 the v6s have are sometimes T5 world class transmissions, and can handle some more power, plus paired with a 8.8 I’m building it will be a fun car

2003 V6 creaking sound

So I got this Mustang for super cheap and had no problems with 125k miles. Recently it started making a creaking sound when I turn and especially when I brake. Changed the PS fluid a few times and changed the struts as well and nothing has changed. Does anybody have an idea of what this could be? I’m not the best with cars at the moment but I am learning!

Fog lights

Anybody have any experience/knowledge to new edge fogs ? Specifically exactly where and what voltage goes to in order to get to the fog lights

My 2004 Mustang GT came factory with fog lights obviously, however when I bought the car it came with a Terminator front bumper including the fog lights that had been converted to leds.

Well fast forward a month or two later and both sides are torn out (probably while driving) leaving a strand of wire on passenger side and the two wires hanging on the driver side.

I extend them and add a proper pigtail and nothing. Get no voltage at the pigtail.

I had some other weird issues surrounding my multifunction switch so I went ahead and just replaced it. My headlight switch and pigtail was new, All fuses are new. Swapped relays and got a new one, both did nothing. I checked wiring on passenger side to see if maybe farther up it got ripped but wire was fine all the way up to the connector so didn’t bother with driver.

Car is also missing it’s radio bezel fog light switch currently just have a blank button in there but I heard it has something to do with the high beams rather turning on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I haven’t had fog lights in over a year now.

Question about differential breather valve

I just had my 02 new edge in the shop for a differential leak, and they told me that the breather valve was getting cut off or pinched somehow from my exhaust pipe (due to my car being lowered) causing a buildup of pressure that’s making the diff housing leak. My exhaust is a custom weld job that the previous owner had done, so would replacing it with an after-market piece do the trick? With these cars being modified so regularly Im wondering whether this is just because I have a weird exhaust (especially since my car isn’t that low).
