Ford 4600 No Start - Final Update

Edit: What’s up with all the downvotes?

So here we are. Head gasket failure with a little twist. Will tare down the head tomorrow to check straightness, all the valves and seats - especially the one with a piece of head gasket stuck in it… Order parts on Monday and if needed of to the machine shop with the head. Then it’s just the fun part left - putting it together. :)

Ford 4600 No Start - Update 2

Okey, the exhaust manifold is off and… Well, there is a lot of water in the exhaust port of Cyl #1. That’s the one with very low compression.
Cyl #2 (no compression) also got some water.
Cyl # 3 (compression within spec) is bone dry and looks good. Seems like a head gasket failure, but you never know.

Digging further.

Okey, so compression test was done.

Edit: Image is wrong. Cyl 1 is 3, 2 is 2 and 3 is 1.

Cyl #3= 25-26bar (365psi)
Cyl #2 = 0 (Needle barley moved)
Cyl #1 = 10-12bar (150-170psi)

So now I know why it doesn’t start.
It’s possible that cyl #3 has been low on compression before this failure because I hade some smoke and you could hear it didn’t really wanna run on all three on idle, but that is just guesswork. I was hoping it was the head gasket that failed between cyl #2 & cyl #3 - but no I’m not sure that’s correct anymore.

No oil in water and no water in oil at least.

Pulling the head as soon as time allows.

Any thoughts or info that might help?

Ford 4600 no start

Edit: Going to pause this post until my compression test toolkit arrives. Thanks to all for great input. I will be back when I’ve confirmed compression.

So, this is a Ford 4600 from 74 or 76 i think. I’ll try to cock this down to the most crucial info:
3 years ago I hade that thing happening where everything in the fuel system just clogs up and fail. I emptied the tank and cleaned it, new “petcock” with in tank filter, new fuel filter and the fuel pump got the big rebuild. After that it was a lite hard to start, but was running okey. Figured it was the injector tips that was next up and the reason it was a little hard to start. Anyway, last week I did my gravel road and everything running as planed. I parked outside my workshop and pulled the stop. An our later I came back and it would not start. Slight ignition on one cylinder but it sounded a bit weird when cranking.
My first thing was to get 3x new injectors and I got them dialed in at 2750psi. Hopefully this would do it - but same no start issue.
If I crack the fuel lines by the injectors there is fuel. The pump was pressure tested after rebuild last time, but could be the issue again. I’ve checked the usual little leaver for the stop inside the pump than can get stuck, but it’s okey.

Now my main concern is the sound it does on cranking. It really sounds like there is only compression on 1 cyl. Could it be the head gasket failed between cyl 2 and cyl 3? There is no water in oil and no oil in water. Ordered a compression tester for diesel’s though I’m a carguy and the one I have at hand can’t do it. So compression test is next step. Might be the pump as well, but listen to the crank sound - wierd I think.

Just throwing it on here to get some help from people use to work at CAV diesels.
