I got my mid year performance review today and the only improvement they asked from me was about my leaving early from work which has always been to attend doctors appointments (which I disclose to my immediate manager and team). I was diagnosed with lupus last year and am still navigating the disease and it’s been frustrating to hear my performance isn’t lacking but my “visibility” is. I haven’t formally disclosed my disability to HR as I got diagnosed while working at my company so I feel like that is probably going to have to be the next step.
It feels like the feedback comes from my skip level manager who doesn’t know about my disability and how all these appointments are necessary to keep my body functioning properly. I’m hoping maybe I can get advice from people who have navigated newish diagnosis’s before. A lot of my symptoms deal with severe hives (which I have to get monthly injections for and have steroids on hand as well as an EpiPen), rashes, joint pain, lethargy, and easily catching every disease everyone comes into the office with which makes me end up at home every so often though I try my best not to if I don’t have to. I only work in office 3 days a week and on days I leave early from work I usually am still there 6-7hr and come back online after my appointments to complete the rest.
I’m just frustrated that even after being told I’m a top performer this thing I can’t help is listed as my main issue.
