What to do if a manager forges my signature without consent?

I actually made a post a week ago about how bad my current job is on this subreddit. Well I’m back.

I have been working at a large retailer since February. And not going to lie I’ve hated every minute of it. Today, I found out that one of my managers had forged my signature and pretended to be me.

As I’m new to the job, new staff are required to have a 30 day, 60 day, and 90 day review. After almost two months of being there, I have not had any of my reviews yet.

Today I get called into the office, for my 90 day review. I was quite confused as I hadn’t had my 30 day or 60 day review yet. I sat down and my team leader said to me something along the lines of, “obviously you’ve had you’re 30 day review” I said “oh no I haven’t, I haven’t had any of my reviews”. He proceeds to say that I have, and showed me the sheet which has different boxes along the lines of what are my strengths, weaknesses, and where can I improve, which is something I’m supposed to fill out myself.

I noticed that everything was filled in, including my signature.

I explained how I hadn’t filled any of this in, and that I hadn’t wrote my signature, suggesting that someone else had done it for me. He then said something along the lines of how my manager may have quickly filled it all in, which all happened during the time our store was due for an audit.

My guess is that they hadn’t completed my 30/60 day review in time, and quickly filled out the information with what they thought was correct and signed it so they wouldn’t get in trouble.

Not gonna lie, I’m actually fuming, and I don’t know what to do about it. If they wanted to fire me, they could use what they wrote against me as I supposedly wrote it and signed for it, when I absolutely didn’t.

Who should I talk to?

Should I complain about always leaving work late?

For context, I’ve been working at a large retailer for about 3 months now. I have 4 years of retail experience, and so far this has been my worst.

Pretty much every single shift I get is a closing shift, and I have never left my shift on time.

I am usually meant to finish work at 7pm, but always end up staying about 10-30 minutes later. It is extremely frustrating because I never know what time I am going to leave work.

And I don’t even know if I’m getting paid for my overtime, as our clock- in machine is located down stairs in our basement. I don’t know if im paid by the hour or the minute. Once we’ve all clocked out, past when our shift has ended, we then have to go upstairs to the shop floor and wait by the shutters to be let out. Me and my co workers are usually waiting around 10 minutes for our managers to come upstairs to let us out, but when they do, some of us have to be randomly bag checked which also takes extra time.

I also really don’t appreciate that we have to ask for permission to get ready to leave our shift. Often there has been times where are managers have been very cross and said how they ‘haven’t given permission for us to leave’ and that ‘no one said we could leave’ despite our shift already being over. I think the situation would be slightly difficult if it was hospitality, but it’s not, as the shop shut an hour and a half ago and there’s people in at 7am, 2 hours before we open to get everything done. We can’t even leave by ourselves anyways as one of the managers has the key to unlock the shutters, so we are practically shut in and forced to stay late.

One of my co workers came up to me yesterday and explained that she is going to have to ask our manager on her next closing shift, to actually be able to leave on time as she has commitments, which is just insane really, I find this all utterly ridiculous.

Also what I’ve noticed is that they tend to keep all of the younger staff on closing shifts, or the people they know who are not going to speak up and ask if it’s okay to leave yet, probably to take advantage of us.

I’ve honestly had enough of it all, it’s not even just about how we ALWAYS leave late, but also how patronising some of the managers are and the way we are treated. I’m seriously considering anonymously contacting HR about this situation, and it’s clear there’s an issue in our work place as the turnover of our staff is awful.

I am going to start keeping track of the times I leave work to check if I’m being paid overtime.

Am I being ridiculous or is it valid that I am frustrated about this?
