Not disclosing benefits?

I’m in healthcare. I’m used to benefits (costs, coverage, amounts) being spelled out in detail prior to hire either at the interview or before accepting the position.

About a year ago, I briefly took on what was to be a second job as things were shaky at my full time. I didn’t ask for benefit details because I had them at my full time job, so it wasn’t a dealbreaker although it would be enough hours to qualify for part time benefits. In the few days I oriented, no one was able to tell me about the benefits they offer to employees.

Which health insurance company do you use? “We go through a broker, it’s personalized to each employee, they’ll tell you more when you qualify”. When will I qualify? “Not sure I think it’s 60 days, maybe 90”. How much PTO? “You’ll earn some every week…BUT NOT FOR A YEAR…I think”.

Manager didn’t know or care to find out, nor did recruiter. HR was offsite and I asked for contact info but it was never provided. Ultimately, I didn’t stay due to other red flags and chalked it up to a disorganized organization.

Now that I’m in the position of searching for a full time job, when I absolutely need the benefits, this is happening over and over again! I had an interview last week where the director answered my question about health insurance by shrugging and taking his insurance card out of his wallet to show me. Which told me the company they used and that he had a very high deductible, but not the cost or whether other tiers of coverage were available. When I asked about PTO, he said “we get it but I don’t use it, not sure how much”. Could not produce a handbook or benefits packet nor point me in the direction to obtain them. Told me I would be told more “if you end up working here”.

Is the economy so bad that people are just taking jobs with no clue about the benefits?? What happened to them being an aspect of total compensation to be considered when deciding whether or not to take a position? Please tell me this isn’t the new norm! (I’m in the Northeast of the USA if that matters)

YLM Summer Wishes

We finally made it to the last week of school! 🎉 The kids are so done with all of the final tests (in elementary school!), projects, and responsibilities, and are ready for summer to begin.

We went to the local splash pad today and the kids had a blast playing with the other kids, and the different waterproof toys they had. They decided that they would like to bring some of their own when we go again, so that’s what I’ve put on their list.

Thank you for allowing me to request summer goodies. Being able to provide special seasonal extras really contributes to the memories we are able to make, and I appreciate it so much! 😊

On FMLA 9/25-12/25
On ADA leave extension 12/25-2/26

Was then terminated when doctor reported I was not yet recovered and requested additional medical leave, and employer stated they were unable to accommodate additional leave.

Applied for UI 4/26 once medically cleared.

Employer told UI the following:

Reason for discharge: never returned from FIMLA.

Final incident leading to discharge: never returned from FMLA.

Company policy related to incident which caused the discharge: FMLA

Did the last incident cause any potential harm or loss: YES, we needed the staff and her absence caused a hardship.

Did the claimant receive any prior warnings: YES, Communication with Human Resources.

Their responses seem like they’re trying to get me for an intentional policy violation, but their policy is that you must be medically cleared to return to work after medical leave! I was not yet cleared and was in contact with them constantly to provide all of the completed forms they requested from my doctor.

Are these typical answers or are they going to prevent/delay me from collecting?
