Best Hulk by Peter David Epics
Trying to get into classic Hulk and I’ve read that Peter David is to the Hulk what Miller is to Daredevil and Claremont is to X-Men.
His run will be released in 10 different Epic volumes, 15 through 24, and not all have been released yet. I am including the main issue contents below for a rough guide, each volume likely collects more material like annuals and others.
Vol 15: Ground Zero - 331-346
Vol 16, 17 and 18 have not been announced
Vol 19: Ghost of the Past - 397-406
Vol 20: Future Imperfect - 407-419
Vol 21: Fall of the Pantheon - 420-435
Vol 22: Ghosts of the Future - 436-448
Vol 23 not yet announced - 449-459
Vol 24: The Lone and Level Sands - 460-474
I have done some research about his run and it seems it has its ups and downs, which is not surprising since he was on the book for 10+ years, but I do have some questions for people that have read or collected this run.
What are generally considered to be the best parts of his run? In my research I’ve read that the start of his run is very strong, so Vol 15 sounds like the best place to start. Future Imperfect is supposedly a highlight as well, but other than that I haven’t heard of other highlights at all - maybe because volumes 16 - 18 are not released yet. What would your top 3 volumes be?
Are there any arcs or volumes that are generally considered to be on the weaker side?
Shelf space is limited so I want to get a sense of what people think and start making space. Obviously the usual tip is just “start reading and stop when you get bored of it” but I do like to hear people’s opinions on what the best parts are. For example, out of Claremont’s 15 (!) Epic volumes of the main X-Men line I’d say the top 5 are likely the one below, my personal top 3 in bold, and the weakest is probably Vol 12: The Gift - so would love to hear opinions on Hulk.
Vol 7: Fate of the Phoenix
Vol 10: God Loves, Man Kills
Vol 14: Mutant Massacre (announced, not released)
Vol 16: Inferno (not yet announced)
Vol 19: Mutant Genesis
Thanks for the help!
