Finally got my hands on the only missing book I need for a (somewhat) decent price

So, between vol 2 and vol 4, Venom has just one mini, Funeral Pyre, which is only 3 issues. So, obviously it can't be just that. Do you think we'll get the complete Maximum Carnage story collected with it? Or just the parts with Venom?
So 42% if you already shop there
This will be my first time reading silver age Hulk. Really looking forward to it!
These two complete both series, as currently published. What an ordeal!
After about a year of collecting I'm only 2 books short of completing the silver surfer classic line.
Does anyone have any advice about other epics to read ?
Just got the two astonishing X-Men epics along with the cheaper 2nd Green Arrow DC Finest, and they are so much smaller it's comical.
Do you think the epics are better quality than the DC Finest's?
When the Infinity War movie came out I decided that I wanted to start reading more comics. This lead to buying my first Epic: Silver Surfer - Thanos Quest.
I didn't intend to start collecting Epic's, but since I don't like the feel of Omni's it seemed like the best way to pick up classic X-Men. Things sort of spiraled out of control when I started getting into Spider-Man and the X-Men adjacent titles.
What was your first epic and when did you start collecting?
Started shifting my collection towards Epics recently and want to collect the Claremont run, which Claremont X-Men books are currently “in print”? Just want to make sure I don’t miss anything suddenly going out of print. I picked up Fate of the Phoenix and God Loves, Man Kills so far. Was hoping to find Brood Saga, but it looks like I’m just a little late for that one without paying an arm and a leg.
Sticking with my Ultimate collection for volume 1, and finishing out the run with Epics.
Where will the volume 1s of modern era epics start with Hulk and FF?
I was thinking most likely Waids run on FF.
The recently OOP Spider-Girl Vol.1--had to turn to eBay for this one. Very excited to read.
I know this is a pretty "the dead horse is well beaten" topic, but has Marvel ever in any sort of official way explained why they are so very bad at keeping things in print? The speed with which Epic Collections, especially, sell out and then don't see reprints for years (if ever), is mind boggling.
Reading through the Claremont run for the first time in my life at the moment, and I kept hearing great things about Demon Bear Saga. I couldn’t believe they had it at my LCS. Also, picked up these milestones as I heard Mutant Massacre is a huge event in the X-Men canon.
Question: For all X-Men fans out there, would you say picking up the future Mutant Massacre Epic is still necessary if I have these milestones? Please lmk.
I was just looking at the Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 7 omnibus and noticed that the new ASM Epic Collection, “Spider-Man: Threat or Menace,” has practically the same issues: ASM #207–223 and Annual #14–15. The only difference is that the omnibus also includes ASM #206, Marvel Treasury Edition #25, and some What If? material.
I think this indicates two major problems. First, Epic Collections are severely overpriced. (This one‘s MSRP is $54.99!) Second, the last several numbered ASM omnibuses have been too barebones. Even though this one has a lower price (MSRP $100), it still only includes the content equivalent of an Epic Collection. Does Marvel think we’re a bunch of idiots or what? Is this really the most effective publishing strategy they could come up with, an extra $45 if you want the hardcover? I know we all hate Marvel in this sub, but it bears repeating. Who is making these stupid decisions?
I ordered the God Loves Man Kills Epic Collection from Target for a lean $25 a couple of weeks ago. UPS lost my package. The book is now double the price everywhere.
Curse you UPS.
Trying to get into classic Hulk and I’ve read that Peter David is to the Hulk what Miller is to Daredevil and Claremont is to X-Men.
His run will be released in 10 different Epic volumes, 15 through 24, and not all have been released yet. I am including the main issue contents below for a rough guide, each volume likely collects more material like annuals and others.
Vol 15: Ground Zero - 331-346
Vol 16, 17 and 18 have not been announced
Vol 19: Ghost of the Past - 397-406
Vol 20: Future Imperfect - 407-419
Vol 21: Fall of the Pantheon - 420-435
Vol 22: Ghosts of the Future - 436-448
Vol 23 not yet announced - 449-459
Vol 24: The Lone and Level Sands - 460-474
I have done some research about his run and it seems it has its ups and downs, which is not surprising since he was on the book for 10+ years, but I do have some questions for people that have read or collected this run.
What are generally considered to be the best parts of his run? In my research I’ve read that the start of his run is very strong, so Vol 15 sounds like the best place to start. Future Imperfect is supposedly a highlight as well, but other than that I haven’t heard of other highlights at all - maybe because volumes 16 - 18 are not released yet. What would your top 3 volumes be?
Are there any arcs or volumes that are generally considered to be on the weaker side?
Shelf space is limited so I want to get a sense of what people think and start making space. Obviously the usual tip is just “start reading and stop when you get bored of it” but I do like to hear people’s opinions on what the best parts are. For example, out of Claremont’s 15 (!) Epic volumes of the main X-Men line I’d say the top 5 are likely the one below, my personal top 3 in bold, and the weakest is probably Vol 12: The Gift - so would love to hear opinions on Hulk.
Vol 7: Fate of the Phoenix
Vol 10: God Loves, Man Kills
Vol 14: Mutant Massacre (announced, not released)
Vol 16: Inferno (not yet announced)
Vol 19: Mutant Genesis
Thanks for the help!
