Subs in limbo

I don’t have a partner right now, and I’m not sure I’m ready for one. Especially since being single… cringe. Is a plot twist I never saw coming. My head is cautious for good reasons. My heart is somewhere behind it, still counting the exits. But my soul wants connection so badly it aches, and those three parts of me do not move at the same speed.

So I sit in the middle of it. Not partnered, not healed enough to be looking, not indifferent enough to stop wanting. Stumbling like a chicken with my head cut off without my adultier adult. A ten year relationship with my dom, gone.

It suck’s.

It’s a slow journey when you’re wounded, and I’ve made peace with slow. What I haven’t figured out is the loneliness that comes with it. So those also in limbo, like myself. How do you cope with the loneliness that creeps in?

His name?

On a dusty shelf, wedged between forgotten things, sat a harlequin, sewn upright and patient. Stitched by hands that learned their craft decades before mine. I didn’t decide to buy him, only noticed as I walked past.

I circled back to find he had no price tag. Remembering a sign posted on the wall, “No price tag, no sale.”I placed him gently back on the shelf. My stomach had a knot that refused to loosen.

“Maybe I should try to buy him just incase no one tags him. It’s a cool find.” I asked my friend three aisles later.

“No one will buy it because it’s scary as hell.” My stomach dropped. The cashier was more than happy to sell it to me, she picked it up with two fingers before dropping it into the bag.

He rode home in my lap, in the passenger seat while my friend glanced nervously at it. Some objects refuse to stay quiet, and I have learned not to argue with the ones that follow me out the door.

I love a good villain…

Mrs. Robeson remains today, my favorite still. What’s yours?
