32x Core Release for Analogue Pocket
Hey everyone! Like many of you, I was checking in on a 32x core periodically over the years and seeing various comments about whether or not it was possible. I was hoping to be able to play Kolibri, which is kind of like Ecco the Dolphin but with hummingbirds.
While I am a programmer, I've never worked with FPGA development before, so I didn't really look too much into building the core myself. With the recent release of Claude Opus 5.5, I decided to finally give it a shot because I was pretty impressed with how well it worked.
After a lot of back and forth and testing (including sending photos to debug, since I don't have a JTAG Blaster), I'm happy to report that a 32x core on the Analogue Pocket is possible!
The release is here: https://github.com/armyofgnomes/analogue-pocket-32x
Please let me know if you run into any issues or bugs and I'll take a look and work on getting them fixed!
A couple of notes:
- Sega CD + 32x games do not appear to be possible, both cores just can't fit on the Pocket
- Memories (save states) and sleep don't appear to be possible either, for the same reason.
- As mentioned previously, the coding was all done with the assistance of AI. I understand if you have reservations about that and don't want to interact with it for that reason.
