I'm posting this to see if anyone felt the same or just other fans' thoughts. When season 2 happened, I thought it would've been a really good end for Dexter to have died in that fire after saving the kids. Then realized it would've been really interesting if we had started with Lumen as his love interest(but not from episode 1) with her plot line but executed with more suspense to keep the viewers hooked like the first season. Starting the show off with him kind of piecing his life together since she obviously wasn't the right fit for Dexter. Brian would take place after. Then eventually meet Hannah the same way he does showing how he's kind of naturally drawn to chaos which tracks since, as Batista said in Resurrection, everyone around him dies. Of course Hannah would eventually either flee since that's what she does or be caught by Deb who did suspect him in the show. Then Rita, showing a stark contrast of how his life descended into chaos with his poor choices. Him learning to actually love someone which we know he did since he says so in his inner monologue at her funeral. Trinity still kills her which, as it did originally, kind of breaks him and he pursues Lila due to not knowing what to do after Rita like we saw him grappling with when he tried to be a parent to all 3 kids. Bringing absolute chaos after the peace of life with Rita and kids. He dies in the fire Lila set when she kidnapped the kids after saving them like he did in the show. Dying a hero but brutally just as he brutally killed so many people rather than simply getting shot and then the mercy of not dying. Deb gets to live. New blood would still be a Harrison spin off but could be about discovering why he feels compelled towards violence, seeking out Deb instead and figuring out the truth of what happened to Dexter thereby bringing him to justice yet he was never caught just as Harry taught him. And that's my theory of how it should've happened in reverse with a more fitting ending for Dexter.
