Stuck in a very chaotic situation seniors please help me.
I’m stuck at a major crossroad and could really use some grounded perspectives from seniors, developers, or anyone who has dealt with compartment/board marksheet dilemmas.
My Background & Current Situation:
Appeared for CBSE Class 12 this year (PCM with 6 subjects).
In the main results, I got an RT in two subjects: Math and Chemistry.
Because I had 6 subjects, CBSE allowed a compartment rather than an Essential Repeat. I sat for the Math compartment, cleared it, and my final status is officially PASS.
My best-5 aggregate comes out to 67%, but Chemistry still shows an RT on record.
The Conflict:
Initially, I was aiming for B.Tech (where a full PCM pass is mandatory), but I’ve decided to pivot to BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications) instead.
I already have a confirmed admission option at a private college for BCA starting this session based on my passing marksheet. However, my family has already registered me to repeat Class 12 next year as a private/regular candidate.
Their reasoning is that having an RT on paper looks messy and will hurt my profile, so spending an entire year to get a fresh, 80%+ single-sitting marksheet is worth the gap.
The Two Paths I’m Looking At:
Option A: Take BCA admission right now (Save 1 year)
Pros: Jump straight into programming, CS fundamentals, and software development without wasting 12 months.
Worry: Will the RT in Chemistry or the compartment tag on my 12th marksheet come back to bite me during on-campus BCA/MCA placements, off-campus tech hiring, or background verification (BGV)?
Option B: Drop a full year to re-give Class 12 boards
Pros: A clean marksheet, higher percentage, and no awkward questions about 12th marks.
Worry: Spending an entire year re-studying board-level Physics and Chemistry—subjects completely irrelevant to my software career—feels like a massive drain of time and momentum.
What I want to ask the community:
Industry/Placement reality: Do IT recruiters, MNCs (TCS, Infosys, Wipro, etc.), or product startups care if you had an RT in an additional 6th subject (Chemistry) as long as your official status is "PASS" and your overall aggregate is >60%?
Higher Studies: Does this create hurdles later if I plan to appear for NIMCET / top MCA entrance exams?
Is the gap year worth it? In the tech industry, does an extra year spent building real skills/projects heavily outweigh a cosmetic fix on a high school marksheet?
Any candid advice on what actually matters in the long run would be immensely appreciated. Thanks in advance!
