[CHAT] Securing starts and ends on a towel
A friend is getting married on November and I wanted to gift the couple a set of matching hand towels with their names. I already bought the waste canvas but I was hoping for some tips on securing the threads for something that will be (hopefully) used and washed.
I will be using variegated thread so I can't use the loop start. Would a pin stitch start secure the starting thread enough? Can I use pin stitch with waste canvas?
Regarding finishing the thread, I usually just go under three or four other stitches, but I fear that on a towel that might not do it, should I knot it somehow?

I'm about to do the hair portion of this piece, but I wanted to make her hair match mine a little, do you think replacing half the threads with the same red/ish colour would work or would it make it all muddled?
I'm using two threads on 16 ct aida, so if the stitch calls for 839, instead of two strand of 839 I'd instead use one strand of 839 and one strand of the red. And the same with all the hair.
