A Wanderer’s Handbook
Hi, I just found a copy of A Wanderer’s Handbook, it is pretty massive and was wondering from those who have already read it, is it worth the read? And if so what did you get out of it?
Michael Hutchison’s 1985 first hand account of the Gateway Program, meeting Robert Monroe, and witnessing the Explorer sessions. Also I found this really interesting story of what happened to Michael later on in his life.
Michael Hutchison was a early consciousness pioneer/reporter in the 1980's. He was on the cutting edge of experimenting and exploring new Brain/Mind technologies. This is a first hand account on his experience with the Gateway Program in 1985, his talks with Robert and watching the Explorer team.

This is an article and audio interview about what happened years after Michael went through The Gateway Program, and fell on really hard times, which is just as interesting.

Michael passed away July 22, 2013, this is lovely talk about him and his life from an old friend. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etsl237GaW4&t=10s
If you visit the Internet Archive you can view old copies of his Megabrain Report, which are very dated, but are interesting to see what people were doing back then.

Astral Projection Truth - The Frank Kepple Archives
I found this site after I made my last post on Frank Kepple.
This is from the website.
This website is dedicated to sharing all of Frank Kepple’s works that could be recovered and collected.
Frank Kepple was a consciousness explorer. He developed a model of wider reality and methods for phasing consciousness. He was active on the AstralPulse forums and was writing a book, but unfortunately, he disappeared (and likely passed away) just before he could publish it. Thanks to his extensive forum activity and several newsletter issues, a large portion of his knowledge has been preserved. His work is groundbreaking and highly valuable.
This website brings together all available material from Frank in its original form. Nothing has been altered or added with the goal to present his work exactly as he created it. The archive is presented in a website format to make it easier to explore and discover, with the hope that more people will discover his work and appreciate the depth of his contributions.
- Posts - All of Frank’s posts that could be recovered and reconstructed from the current AstralPulse forums and the Wayback Machine. It was possible to recover 1398 forum threads where he posted 2580 messages.
- Newsletter - The Astral Projection Truth newsletter series Frank issued while writing his book.
- Website - The original Astral Projection Truth website Frank launched to promote his upcoming book, which was originally hosted on this domain.
- Tags - A curated ranking of his forum posts based on usefulness and relevance.
Frank Kepple’s compilation of posts taken from the Astral Pulse forums, which cover how he used the Gateway program (mostly waves 1 & 2) with his own techniques.
Frank Kepple was an English researcher with a long-term interest in the theory and practical application of astral projection, out-of-body experiences, and related areas of afterlife studies. Frank first became interested in this field when he came across one of Monroe's books in a second-hand bookshop. He didn't blindly accept what Monroe wrote, nor automatically dismiss it, his scientific outlook led him to put Monroe's findings to the test by trying to replicate his work. Only then was he satisfied Monroe was onto something.
Frank developed his own model of consciousness, perfected a new OBE-induction technique, and went beyond the farthest reaches of Monroe's explorations, finding what he considered an entirely new level of consciousness.
He had a website full of interesting material and a forum where he was very active, then suddenly disappeared. Nobody knows what happened to him, but he left a large body of work and research into astral projection. In 2005, Frank was working on publishing a book and setting up a virtual classroom to teach others his techniques. He fell into ill health and was forced to retire from online participation. He has not been heard from since, and is presumed to be deceased.
After his disappearance, a moderator called Douglas Eckhart compiled his forum posts into what became known as the Frank Kepple Resource.
Kepple had a nuanced attitude toward the Gateway tapes. He wasn't a big fan of the Monroe Institute overall, finding their way of doing things a bit "touchy-feely," but he valued Wave 1 CD1 specifically for beginners. He loved it because it gives a total novice a structured plan to work to, and it works more effectively as recorded guidance than as a book. It provides a specific count from C1 (normal physical consciousness) through to Focus 10.
His Core Contribution: The Phasing Model
Kepple took Monroe's Focus Level system and radically simplified it into a four-zone model of consciousness:
Our system can be divided into Focus 1, Focus 2, Focus 3, and Focus 4. Together they form the totality of what he called the Consciousness Continuum, all that is, at least in our system. Each of us has our very own Consciousness Continuum that exists across these four areas.
- Focus 1 = ordinary physical waking consciousness (Monroe's C1)
- Focus 2 = the personal unconscious / imagination / dream space
- Focus 3 = a transition zone where consciousness goes after physical death, to shed belief structures accumulated during life
- Focus 4 = the ultimate creative source; pure subjective reality
After physical death our Primary Focus switches to F3 as a transition phase, which eventually allows us to make the permanent switch to F4, at which point F4 becomes our Primary Focus once again and the cycle is complete.
He saw Monroe's sprawling Focus numbering system (10, 12, 15, 21, 27 etc.) as navigational markers within this broader four-zone map.
The "Noticing" Technique
This is probably his most practically influential contribution. "Noticing" is the name he gave to a basic phasing exercise. The goal is to "become fixated within", because that's where the non-physical lies. You close your eyes, fix on a point in the inner visual field, and passively observe whatever arises: areas of blackness that are slightly less black, brief flashes of imagery, a sense of movement, perhaps hearing your name called.
The more you notice what's occurring in your field of view, the deeper you shift your focus into it and the more you remove your focus from the physical. When this happens, you'll roughly be 10% in the physical and 90% in the non-physical. Eventually there comes a point when you feel a shift — and you might find yourself within a scene of some kind, or floating in what's best described as a 3D Blackness.
The key instruction is passive curiosity. you observe without grasping or getting excited, which would snap you back.
How He Differed from Classic Monroe
Classic Monroe OBE practice involves a dramatic "exit" from the body, vibrations, floating sensations, separation. Kepple argued this framing was misleading. Phasing describes a controlled process where you phase out of being open to the physical world and allow your sense of conscious awareness to become open to other realms of reality. Any time you switch your focus of awareness from one Focus to another while remaining consciously awake and aware, that is Phasing. In essence, it's falling asleep into the non-physical and remaining consciously aware.
He thought the "leaving the body" model created unnecessary drama and obstacles, and that consciousness simply shifts its attention which is why his techniques feel more like deep meditation than the classic OBE induction approach.
This is the Introduction to the compilation.
Frank Kepple’s posts on the Astral Pulse forums are a valuable resource for those serious about exploring their inner worlds and gaining control over their dreams.
The posts span several years and, when read in sequence, provide a transcript of Frank’s progress towards a mastery of lucid dreaming.
Although not everyone may agree with his particular worldview and theories on the afterlife, his posts contain many insights into the process of conscious transition into the world of Lucid Dreams.
This document represents a selection of his posts dealing with the practical side of Lucid Dreaming. It focuses entirely on how to achieve the state he calls “astral projection,” and omits any discussions of his experiences there or of his theories on the nature of reality.
The posts are organized by topic and relevance, rather than by date.

I only found Frank's resources recently, so can't comment on their effectiveness or validity, but thought others here may be interested. Have fun :)
