What’s your honest opinion on RDJ’s role in Luthorday?

The DCU’s decision to use the face of its greatest hero as the main villain of this saga is still pretty controversial. What do you guys think about it?

Do you think Luthor is going to be a variant of Bruce, or is this just a cheap multiversal coincidence? I’d love to hear everything you guys think about this casting/creative choice.

Here’s how I think the MCU X-Men movie will play out. [BND spoilers]

After Brand New Day, I think the groundwork for the MCU’s mutants has been laid pretty clearly.

Obviously, I’m not trying to predict every little detail of a movie we know almost nothing about, but putting a few things together, this is roughly how I see it going:

• We’ll probably get flashbacks (or something similar) showing Charles Xavier and Magneto back when they were allies fighting for the mutant cause.

• Mutants have always existed in the MCU. There have been scattered cases over the years, and part of the public has always suspected—or at least theorized—that some people are born with superhuman abilities.

• Governments have kept this secret hidden because of fear and prejudice toward mutants, while also wanting to study and exploit them. Xavier believes mutants should reveal themselves to the world and take the first step toward showing humanity the truth. Magneto disagrees, believing they’ll be hated and feared no matter what. That’s where their ideologies split, and they go their separate ways.

• That’s when we jump to the end of Brand New Day. Jean leaves after accepting an invitation from Xavier, who runs a secret institute for young mutants. (With the X-Men first class)

• Metzger’s disappearance and the Damage Control exposed that Yelena helped uncover become public (BND final). The government decides to shut Damage Control down, but it’s far from a victory. The leaked Damage Control files expose the existence of mutants to the world, causing widespread panic. That gives the government an opening—possibly through someone like Senator Kelly—to launch a new program dedicated to monitoring and imprisoning mutants. Maybe he secures funding and political influence from the Hellfire Club, which would explain Emma Frost’s reported role in the movie.

• That program eventually captures Rogue, who’s a member of the Brotherhood of Mutants, a rogue mutant group led by Magneto (who may still be operating from the shadows). Maybe Rogue even absorbs Carol Danvers’ powers during a confrontation—who knows—but she’s ultimately taken into custody.

• Rogue’s capture is presented as a major victory. Jean sees the news, remembers everything she went through in Brand New Day, and convinces the X-Men to come together and rescue her.

• Maybe this same government program discovers Emma Frost’s school for mutant students and massacres them, similar to what happened in the comics. That pushes Emma to turn against the Hellfire Club, which helped fund the whole operation, and she ends up siding with either Magneto or Xavier.

• The X-Men take on this government program to rescue Rogue. The Brotherhood of Mutants may also get involved, creating conflict between the two groups. Mr. Sinister could also have an important subplot, but I think the overall story could end up being at least somewhat similar to this.

• In the end, the X-Men obviously save the day, but the public is still deeply suspicious of them simply because they’re mutants.

I tried connecting some of the rumors, the confirmed casting, and the setup from the recent movies, and this is what I came up with. What do you guys think?

Do you guys think the Inhumans still have a chance of being adapted into the MCU?

Do you think we’ll ever see these characters on the big screen in the MCU? Do you buy into any theories that suggest they’re coming back? If so, I’d love to hear why, because honestly I have a feeling they’re never going to be adapted again.

In the comics, the Inhumans have an extremely elitist, almost openly eugenic view of their powers and their society. The comics use that as a major point of criticism, but I wonder if Disney would even want to touch something that sensitive today, out of fear of being misunderstood. To me, the biggest sign of that was Kamala Khan’s origin being changed so she became a mutant instead.

I know a lot of people will say, “They could just tone that part down,” but I don’t think that would work. I think the terrible Inhumans TV series already proved that stripping away a core part of what makes them unique just leaves them feeling bland.

Do you guys think this is just going to be ignored?

Do you think the whole Monica Rambeau ending up in the X-Men universe is just going to be brushed aside in Doomsday? Because I haven’t seen any “reliable leak” mentioning Monica.

The easy explanation would be: “Sure, that universe had X-Men, but it wasn’t the same X-Men universe that’s going to appear in Doomsday.”

But I think that would be a huge missed opportunity. In theory, Monica’s presence there should already be causing an Incursion. It would actually be a pretty solid way to explain the triple Incursion if Steve Rogers is living on Earth-828 while Monica is stranded on Earth-10005, with both universes being pulled toward Earth-616.
