How long does it take for your Kindle Unlimited (KU) read count to update?

Hi everyone,

It’s been about a week since I uploaded my novel to Kindle Unlimited, and my KENP page reads are still completely stuck at 0. I’m fully aware this could just mean that my book is terrible and nobody is reading it. However, the posts I’ve made here and on a few other platforms promoting that the book is on KU have received over 1,000 views.

Naturally, it makes me wonder: even if my book is a total disaster, if someone opened it and closed it after the very first page, shouldn’t that number change? Or does KU count it as 0 pages read if they back out during the first page?

For context, my actual Chapter 1 starts around page 7 after the title page and dedication. If someone flips through those early pages and drops off, does it still register as 0? I'm not entirely sure how the tracking works, so I wanted to ask the community. Does your page count update in real-time daily, or is there a noticeable delay for it to refresh?

update: five days have passed since publishing and finally the number changed. 16 :)) well... better than zero I guess :)))

Need recommendations (books/movies/shows) to write a convincing therapist character

Hi everyone,

I'm currently working on my second novel. Right now, I'm struggling with getting my main character's voice much more than plotting the story.

The protagonist needs to be some kind of therapist (psychologist, psychiatrist, etc.—I haven't finalized the exact title yet because I don’t even know the exact differences between them). But more importantly, I don't know how a real therapist actually talks to patients. I wrote a couple of introductory pages and asked... errrr... a "friend" (let's call it that so the post doesn't get deleted) for feedback. This friend replied that my dialogue was the exact definition of how a therapist shouldn't talk.

They recommended the TV series In Treatment. It was incredibly helpful. I took extensive notes, and it made me realize my initial character sounded like a judgmental friend rather than a professional. I've tweaked the tone, but the dialogue still doesn't feel entirely organic.

To clarify, the book is a serial killer thriller, not a deep dive into psychology. The core plot revolves around the murders, but I want the therapy sessions between my protagonist, the killer, and a few other patients to feel authentic and well-crafted. I don't need academic depth; I just need to portray a competent, believable therapist—like a reliable stage prop to support the narrative.

I'm about to finish In Treatment and plan to re-read some Irvin Yalom. Do you have any recommendations for books, movies, or TV shows that could help me shape a convincing therapist character?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

If dark paranormal fiction is in your wheelhouse, my debut novel 'Dreamwalker', a thriller set in Istanbul, is now available on KU.

Hi everyone,

I'm an indie author, and I’ve just released my new paranormal suspense novel, Dreamwalker, on Amazon.

The story takes place in Istanbul. It follows Arda, an ordinary math teacher leading a predictable life, until a catastrophic night which ends up with him digging a grave in his garden at the very beginning of the first page.

Then he sets off on a journey that blurs the line between reality and nightmare, as he tries to keep his sanity and morality intact.

If you love your thrillers a bit on the dark side, it’s available on Kindle Unlimited.

I’m at point zero with reviews and would absolutely love to hear what you think. Any honest feedback or impression would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
