budgeting for two months in europe

I’m in the midst of planning my trip for summer of 2027 so peak season and was wondering about how much I should be thinking of saving for. Right now I have a planned budget of about 8500€ and was also paying down all my credit cards to use as an emergency fund so would have a buffer of about 1500€ mainly for my flight back home and other larger purchases.

I so far have calculated about 3500€ staying in hostels but of course I won’t know the exact price because I’ll probably only book the first few hostels at a time. I may also want to stay in a hotel for a night or two if I don’t like the quality of the hostel so I want that to be an option budget wise.

I plan on getting the Paris Museum Pass for 4 days, deciding between the 7 or 10 day Eurail pass, and the Swiss Travel Pass. That’s about 600€

Then flights and transportation in between come up to an estimated 1300€.

That leaves about 3200€ or 50/day for two months. That sounds to me like it’s not enough but needed to know how much more I should be thinking of saving.

My itinerary is below on locations and how long I’m staying in each: leaving early June to mid August

London (5 nights)
- free museums, a lot of walking, sightseeing, walking tours, will probably spend the most on food here. Windsor castle day trip.

Paris (6 nights)
- museum pass for louvre, versailles, and other museums.

Amsterdam (4 nights)
- meeting up with a friend so itinerary is undecided.

Switzerland (6 nights)
- hiking trails, will mostly eat from grocery stores there.

Milan (2 nights)
- sightseeing, shopping center

Venice (3 nights)
- nothing planned here

Dolomites (2 nights)
- hiking trails, eating at rifugios and bringing food with me.

Florence (2 nights)
- nothing planned

Rome (5 nights)
- sight seeing

Amalfi (2 nights)
- birthday at the beach, not included in the budget. I plan to spend 800+ euros here alone.

Naples (2 nights)
- just want to have pizza here to be honest

(from here on out the night in each city are subjective because I’m meeting up with a friend from Spain)

Barcelona (3 nights)

Madrid (~8 nights)

Lisbon

Porto

Most likely flying out from Madrid.

Solo in Europe for the first time

Europe for the first time

and first time out of the country by myself.

So I was planning a trip to visit some of the countries in Europe and wanted an opinion on the itinerary. Background: 24F, African American who has never been out the country before solo and is first and foremost focused on safety but also socializing and making friends. I plan to make this trip between May-Sep. I want to keep the budget below $7500 if possible but really planning for 10 😮‍💨

Thinking of getting Paris Museum Pass, Eurorail pass (7 days in a month?), and SBB if I stay longer.

I was wanting to do both a hike in the Swiss Alps (Eiger) and Dolomites (rental for day trip or stay the night??)

(=number of nights sleeping)
(4)London
(5)Paris
(3)Amsterdam
(2)Brussels or Bruges
(3)Zurich
(2)Grindelwald
(2)Bern
(1)Milan
(2)Nice
(3)Venice
(3)Florence
(4)Rome
(2)Amalfi
(2)Naples
(5)Lisbon
(4)Porto
(3)Barcelona
(5)Madrid

update: taking out zurich and grindelwald > 6 days in bern and taking out naples so I can have 3 in amalfi and 6 in lisbon.

401k withdrawal @ 23 years old

I just graduated college and i’ve never made less money in my life. There’s about 10k in my 401k that I want to desperately withdraw. Honestly not at the point I can even think about the possibility of retirement and not sure how my income will increase in the next few years.

How terrible of an idea is this? Some people don’t even start their 401k until their late 20s so I’ll just be where they’re at.

About 15k in cc debt, and 22k in student loans, no car loan or mortgage. Renting out of my budget but the cheaper places are in a very bad area and I don’t know anyone in this state so I’d rather rent in a better area then risk my life during a drive by or something.

Currently two months almost three behind on my student loan payments because the only “money” I have is my credit cards. I’m only at about 55% utilization and I can’t put loans on a cc. Not sure what to do but it seems like the 401k is money i’ve earned and should use to get a little bit above water.
