Unfortunate Luck -iPod Classic 7th Gen 256GB — What Would You Do?

Last week, I received my iPod Classic 7th Gen, modded with 256GB storage and a 2000mAh battery. I paid $272 for it.

Unfortunately, when I first received it, the screen had a horizontal line across it. However, after a few hours, the line gradually became less noticeable and eventually disappeared completely.

I initially requested a return and full refund. The seller first offered me $30 as a partial refund, then increased it to $60. After some negotiation, they have now offered me an $80 partial refund.

Meanwhile, I’ve already loaded around 150GB of FLAC files using Rockbox.

If I keep the case open until tomorrow, I feel there’s a possibility that I could get a full refund without having to send the iPod back. But honestly, I feel a little guilty about doing that since the screen issue seems to have disappeared.

So, I’m thinking of doing a complete battery test. If the 2000mAh battery can genuinely give me 25+ hours of playback, I’m considering accepting the seller’s $80 partial refund and keeping the iPod.

What would you do in this situation? Would you wait and try for the full refund, or accept the $80 partial refund if the battery test passes?

Joined The Club Unexpectedly

I ordered a modded 7th Gen iPod Classic, but unexpectedly I found a 6th Gen Classic (80GB) with a Bose Portable Dock for $135.

The Bose dock is in very good condition, but the iPod itself was a bit of a hit-or-miss. I was mainly worried about the battery. When I first got it, the battery indicator was going up and down strangely. However, after doing a complete restore, the indicator seems to be working normally. I’m still not 100% sure about the battery’s actual condition.
For now, I’m waiting for the modded 7th Gen to arrive. Once I receive it, I’ll decide what to do. If this 6th Gen continues to work well, I might return the 7th Gen and keep this one, mainly because of the Bose dock. Otherwise, the 7th Gen will be my daily driver and I’ll keep the 6th Gen as a secondary iPod for the Bose dock.
See my Modest collection also guys.

Dump Decission

Guys, I know this is a dumb decision, but I'm about to throw $300 at a piece of tech that's over 20 years old.

I recently tried an app called SepiaPod, and it perfectly recreated the iPod Classic experience on my iPhone the click wheel, the tactile feel, even the nostalgic vibe. That was all it took.

I know the sound quality will be a downgrade compared to my current setup, and yes, I've already converted my entire FLAC library to ALAC.

My SnowSky Disc isn't going anywhere. It'll stay on my desktop paired with the K13 R2R that setup is my pride.

The iPod Classic won't be my best player. It'll be my joy. A little piece of my childhood that I can carry around and smile at every time I use it.

Should I buy an iPod Classic 7th Gen for $300 just for the nostalgia, even if my current DAP sounds better?

I am caught in a real dilemma and could use some advice.

Right now, I use a Snowsky disc loaded with 256GB of FLAC files. However, I’m really tempted to buy a customized 7th Gen iPod Classic with 512GB of storage for $300.

AI assistants (like ChatGPT and Gemini) keep telling me it's not worth the money if I'm purely looking at audio quality, since my current setup already outperforms the iPod. Deep down, I know they're probably right on paper.

But it’s not just about the specs for me I genuinely miss the nostalgia, the click wheel experience, and the feel of using an iPod.

Is the nostalgic user experience and massive storage upgrade worth the $300 price tag, or am I just romanticizing tech I don't actually need?

Momemntum 4 the Boss

I’ve used the AirPods Max since 2021, along with the Sony WH-1000XM3, XM4, XM5, Bose QC35, QC35 II, and Bose 700. But somehow, I never gave Sennheiser a chance.

Recently, I fell down the audiophile rabbit hole FLAC, ALAC, DACs, R2R, Delta-Sigma… the whole journey.

Last week, I finally got my hands on the Sennheiser Momentum 4, and right out of the box, it completely blew my mind.

In my experience, headphones with extreme detail often become fatiguing after a while. On the other hand, warmer-tuned headphones are easier to listen to, but they usually sacrifice a bit of detail.

The Momentum 4 somehow achieves both.

Using it in wired mode, without changing a single EQ setting, every instrument sounds crystal clear, vocals are beautifully forward, and the presentation is rich, natural, and incredibly engaging. Most surprisingly, I can listen for hours without experiencing any listening fatigue.

I honestly regret not trying the Momentum 4 much earlier. Better late than never.

Snowsky Disc + KA5

What Happened to me its ridiculous. I am mad, insane and bigger foolish one. But Believe me , This setup is 2 times better than M21. Yes battery backup is less? Because KA5 using Disc battery. But sound signature is insane.

I encountered an issue while using the SnowSky disc. I transferred multiple files from my PC directly to the disc. After the transfer was complete, I noticed a hidden folder and deleted it, as I wasn’t sure whether it was created by macOS or the disc itself.

Later, when I tried to play the files, they appeared in the list, but I kept getting a “file not found” error when attempting to open them. I tried resyncing the SD card, but the issue persisted. I also removed and reinserted the card, but that didn’t help either.

Finally, I performed a force shutdown and restarted the device. After that, I resynced the music folder, and everything started working нормально again. There was some slight lag once or twice, which may have been caused by something I did incorrectly, but I’m not sure.

After the restart, everything has been running smoothly.

ere’s a useful tweak to quickly jump between albums, songs, or artists alphabetically. To activate it, lightly press and hold on the left edge of the disc. A small box with the letter “A” will appear on the screen.

Once it appears, simply swipe up or down to move through the alphabet. This lets you quickly jump between different letters without needing to scroll through everything manually. It’s a vertical swipe only no circular motion needed.
