Advice on how to get more people to know about my FOSS project for static sites?

Hi everybody, I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to get more exposure on a FOSS project I made? I tried sharing on reddit but my posts were immediately taken down, probably because I don't really go on reddit very much. I also have intentions to go on HN soon, but any other ideas? Thanks.

I made an OSS project to let websites receive comments via email

Hi Reddit,

This is my first time posting on this group.

You can check my project out at r3ply.com. It's a commenting system for small websites that allows them to receive comments via email. Visitors can even subscribe via RSS to be notified when someone replies to their comment. The whole system is stateless, can be self-hosted, and there's also a free, canonical community instance at r3ply.com.

I'm not going to really repeat what's already on the site. Instead I'll just say a few personal words about the motivation behind this project.

I think people are what make the internet interesting. The web could one day be a great publishing platform. However, for all that web standards have gotten right, since the early days adding commenting to a website always had just enough friction to never be universally adopted, at least by small sites.

I made this project to try and bring back commenting for small websites with a solution that is quite simple and elegant. It works perfectly for static websites, and the project includes tooling to help developers iterate on their designs.

The idea started as a prototype, but I received positive feedback early on, so I developed it more fully and then finally released it under AGPLv3. I hope to develop it one day into something important that will be owned by everyone. Please let me know your thoughts, critiques, and especially if you have any questions.

Besides the main r3ply website, there are currently two other websites using it, both connected to me: The Public Works Book Club website, where we only read book in the public domain, and my personal website spenc.es. Hopefully one day many of you will also use r3ply for your own websites.

Thanks again!

Advice on Hermes 3000 with body damage

I bought a Hermes 3000 that arrived with the left front corner crumpled from it being dropped. The rest of the body shows signs of things misaligning. The space bar doesn’t fit for example.

I’ve been given a refund, but id still like to try and repair it if possible. I was thinking there might be an affordable Media 3 that may come up which I could use to swap out the bottom of the body at least. The rest would need to be cut for the control buttons.

Does anyone else have any ideas? The internals are mostly fine (it’s a tank). There’s no hope in getting it to its original shape is there?

Erika 10 tab moves very, very slowly

https://preview.redd.it/jrlwl00o2a6h1.jpg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=66be62789003ef0df49f271320ca59da018ddc6c

Hi everyone, I just came into possession of this gorgeous piano black Erika 10. It is fantastic condition except a few things. One of the issues is that when I press the tab button it moves so slowly you can barely tell it’s doing anything. It is however moving and it does so until it reaches the tab stop point I set.

The carriage in general feels like there’s more friction than some of my other typewriters.

Any ideas?

Typing up a chart on solvents and their properties

I wanted to seek input on a chart I’m going to make encapsulating the main categories of solvents and their properties. Please consider adding anything I’ve omitted. I will type up the chart in a few days.

The solvents I’ve thought to include are:
Simple green, isopropyl alcohol, mineral spirits, naphtha, lacquer thinner.

The properties I’ve thought about are:
Solvent power, evaporation time, amount of residue left behind, danger to plastic, danger to rubber, danger to paint, health hazard.

I felt like this would be a useful summary for other typers.

Auto reverse for Adler Tippa 1

I picked up a nice little Tippa 1 in great cosmetic condition for about €13. They're great machines!

One question I have is about auto reverse. Do they have it and if so how can I trigger it manually?

Also, I'm not sure if it's my imagination, butthey seem to advance the ribbon really fast. I think it's just because I fit the old ribbon from the SM9, which probably has a bigger spool.

Thank you!

The pictures don’t show it clearly but it looks like there’s some rust on the carriage return. I asked him to make a video of him typing and it looked like it worked, but the ribbon is dry and it needs some cleaning.

I’m picking it up in person so tomorrow, what do you all think?
