Which Indian trading firms consistently produce the best traders—and what’s their edge?

I have been trying to understand the landscape of Indian proprietary trading firms, market makers, and quant desks beyond the usual headlines and company rankings.

For people familiar with the industry: which Indian firms consistently produce exceptional traders, and what do they do differently—hiring, training, risk management, technology, market specialization, or culture?

I’d also be interested in examples of standout traders or desk leaders whose careers and approaches are worth studying. Publicly known names only, of course. I’m less interested in P&L rumours and more interested in what makes these people genuinely respected by others in the industry.

Would especially appreciate perspectives from people who have worked at, interviewed with, or traded against these firms.

IIT Campus Placements 2026: What are HFTs and product companies actually offering?

There are plenty of headlines and rumours about crore-plus campus offers, but very little reliable information about what firms are actually offering across different roles.

It would be useful to crowdsource placement data from the colleges.

If you are currently participating in placements, or have reliable information, please share:

  • Institute
  • Company
  • Role: Quant/Trader/Researcher/Software/Other
  • Domestic or international offer
  • Base salary
  • Bonus or joining bonus
  • Stock, if applicable
  • Total first-year compensation
  • Highest offer you are aware of
  • Whether the figure is confirmed or based on campus discussion

It would also be helpful to know:

  • Which HFT and quantitative trading firms visited?
  • Which firms hired for quant roles versus technology roles?
  • What was the average or typical compensation for each?
  • Which major product companies participated?
  • Were offers lower, higher or similar to last year?

Please do not post anyone’s name or personally identifiable information. You can describe the profile anonymously, for example:

“IIT Delhi, CSE, 9+ CGPA, previous HFT internship—received a domestic quant offer of approximately ₹X.”

If you do not want to comment publicly, you can DM the information and I will add it anonymously.

The aim is to create a realistic, student-sourced picture of the placement market—not another list based on inflated CTC figures.

Is anyone else in Sudhowala tired of the constant power cuts and low voltage?

Living in Sudhowala has become incredibly frustrating, especially during these hot and humid months. Power cuts have become so frequent that it's almost impossible to plan your day. Electricity disappears for hours at a stretch, often without any warning or update.

Even when the power is technically "on," the voltage is so low that fans barely run, ACs are useless, and many appliances simply don't work. In this weather, it's not just inconvenient—it's unbearable.

What's even more disappointing is the complete lack of communication. Try calling the electricity department, and you'll either get no response or no one has any idea when the supply will be restored. There seems to be no accountability and no reliable information.

The most shocking part? This is happening in Dehradun—the capital city of Uttarakhand. If basic infrastructure like electricity can't be managed here, what does that say about the state of affairs?

It feels like poor planning, poor maintenance, and poor management have simply become the norm. Yet, hardly anyone talks about it. We complain among ourselves, but nothing changes.

Is this just Sudhowala, or are other parts of Dehradun facing the same issue? Has anyone managed to get a proper response from UPCL or the authorities? At what point do residents collectively raise their voices and demand better infrastructure and accountability?
