Downtown Evanston Farmers Market is open on the 4th!

It is clear from the current weather forecast for tomorrow that you are all destined to visit your favorite farmers, ranchers, and artisans. The period where rain isn't forecast is between 7am and 1pm, which just happens to be the market's hours (seniors only until 7:30).

The market is open for business for sure. Come on down!!

Just a note to Evanstonians and those beyond: today is the start of the outdoor farmers market's 51st season, and near freezing temps won't stop it. They have somehow packed in more vendors so we'll see how that works. In the past couple of years the ability of some growers to produce remarkable early season products in hoop houses and such has made the early market a more fertile ground for spring delights and even some properly stored winter crops.

The vendor I toil for, River Valley Mushrooms, has been restored to our traditional location in the square, so if you were hunting for us last season it should be easier to get your mushroom fix. If you found us last year, yo! we're not there anymore.

Anyway, no one would blame anyone who skipped a chilly morning like this, but I hope to see lots of folks this season. Prices are so crazy everywhere that the market prices might be more competitive than people think.

There was a coffee roaster in skokie, Poppa Mac's Roastery. Good prices. Great coffee. Was available at Valli in Evanston or for purchase online. His coffee has disappeared from Valli, his website is gone and his phone number can't be reached. It seems obvious that Poppa Mac's is gone, but every directory from Google to Mapquest to Yelp and even Skokie's business directory still has a listing. Anybody know if this fantastic business is still there?
